I would love to have a 270WSM in a Sako m75 Greywolf and maybe now a 7mm-08 and 30-06 (I have a new 25-06 barrel that would be interchangeable with the 30-06) to add to the collection. I sold the 300WSM to a buddy that wanted a newer rifle...I already had my Sako m75ss 300WM.

I have a Sako 85 LSS "grey wolf" in .338 Federal. Awesome rifle, love the stock design, the balance is spot on with the 22" barrel. The trigger was like glass right from the factory. I still need to have it skim bedded but I may wait as I'm unsure of wether I want a McMillan for it or not.

I'll weigh it when I get home but I *think* its sittin pretty right around 8.4 pounds with a VXII 2-7X33, Leupold ring mounts, 5 rounds in the mag and a leather sling.

I'm a Sako lover, have owned about a dozen over the years, but that would be a heavy 308.

my thoughts exactly...I've owned all the Sakos from the old L series rifles, to the A series, had a few 75's and an 85......nice guns but very heavy.

A Sako Grey Wolf in 308 would be about 1-1/2 lbs heavier than any 308 you would see me carrying.

I had a 85 grey wolf .308 and loved it, would still be one of my very favourite rifles but my brother in law loved it even more than me and talked me out of it. They function, handle and shoot very very well. If I had to choose only one rifle for everything, that might be it.

so, what's your suggestion for a comparable but lighter alternative?

Here's a little comparision for ya's. One, a Grey Wolf, two what most people consider to be a "mid weight" sporter, a Kimber 8400 Montana .270 Win.

Sako 85 LSS .338 Federal
Sako Ringmounts
Leupy 2-7X33 VXII
Leather sling
5 shells (225 Interbonds)

VS

Kimber 8400 Montana .270 WCF
Leupold Mounts
Leupold M8 6X36
Same sling
5 shells (130 GMX's)

I really don't walk for miles much anymore due to health reasons, but if I do go for a bit of a walk, I'm very pleased with my A7 in 7-08 at just over 6.5 lbs loaded and scoped. Not ecstatic about the synthetic stock on it, but it works.
Just wanted to get a nice wood or laminate stocked stainless rifle. I seem to have a lot of synthetic or fiberglass. Not sure how that happened! lol

I considered the greywolf in 7-08, but finally settled on the hunter 85. I'm very happy with the Sako I purchased, I don't think they're heavy at all, more weight lessens felt recoil which turns into more accuracy in my opinion. The action is butter smooth and it feels good to carry. The wood stock came a little on the dry side - I don't think they put too much oil on the stock, but it's soaking up the Shaftol now!

My Sako 85/scope/sling combinaison weight just over 10 Lbs loaded and it's fine with me. I've hunted with heavier guns before and worked with way heavier tools. I'm not a sheep hunter so no need for a mountain rifle.

Get the Grey wolf, buy quality.

Just go with the Grey Wolf, you'll love it. 8.75 pounds all up is a pussy cat to carry on a sling.
