Salt shotshell

You should see what a rolled up length of 50/50 solder does to a sheet of 3/4 plywood at 20 yards from a 12 ga...............................Harold ** in my younger foolisher days

Dried beans work great, as does popcorn (unpopped!)

The salt turning into a slug thing is NOT a myth. I had a bunch of these shells at our camp for nuisance B. bears, and let one fly at a coyote....it pretty much removed it's right shoulder....not good. I don't know if the salt had some moisture when it went into the shell, or if it absorbed it after 10 years sitting in the shack, but it certainly did a number on that yote.

It is a myth. If you do try it, keep in mind that the WADDING can be lethal at longer range then you may think.
Yup, I once tried doing the same re-loads and when test firing, the fibre wad blew a 1" hole through 3/4" plywood at 3 yards. No idea where the salt went.

I agree with the above...

Thinking about non lethal loads is one thing but you have to consider the solid wad that gets blasted out along with the payload. Maybe a paper wad instead of plastic but how would it keep its shape and support the chosen shot?

IMO, there is no short range non lethal load with a 12 gauge shotgun

Coffee grounds in a handgun load is great for cleaning hornets nests out of the eves that are out of reach. Don't take much to tear them paper nests apart and at the same time not mess up the building.

I suppose there's easier ways to accomplish that task, however... I wonder if I still have some of those things around here.

My grandfather when he was a kid used to take the bullet off a .22LR round and make one out of soap or wax and shoot each other with them until one penetrated the skin of cousin (at 10 feet).
