Wow, imagine my surprise. I recently purchased a SAM Omega 6 in .40 cal for IPSC Classic Division. Went to do a trigger job and found that aftermarket parts (STI sear, STI sear spring, STI disconnector, STI hammer, STI ambi-safety) would not fit without extensive modification. For example Aftermarket sear is 7/1000 too wide and 19/1000 to long. Aftermarket sear spring will not contact the modified sear. One ruined sear. At a loss as to what to do with this paperweight. Making adjustment to factory 6lb 6oz trigger would make the gun unsafe and potentially full auto. Anyone else have these kind of issues, and how did you get them resolved ? I'm open to ideas and suggestions.

You didnt by chance buy series 70 1911 parts for a series 80 1911 did you? Does the omega have the firing pin safety? Just going off the sear dimensions, the 80 series is narrower to allow for the firing pin safety levers next to the sear....pics would help

Sam omega 6 is series 70

Sam's specs are not the same as most 1911s as i have seen. Series 70 or series 80, the parts are interchangable

Brad6510; It is a Series 70 gun. All the internal dimensions are out of whack. You can't even replace the trigger bar without modifying the new piece. On my STI Ranger II the disconnector sticks up out of the frame .059 of an inch, on the SAM it sticks up .023 of an inch, barely enough to be functional. The disconnector is "bent" for lack of a better word, it is not the same shape as any regular disconnector. I have owned 1911's that were built in the Philippines before without any issue (STI Spartan), so I am quite disappointed by the lack of adherence to spec. I'm being told that SAM pistols are "hand fitted", this one appears to be hand built judging by the tool marks on the parts. Anyone wanting to buy a SAM Omega 6, send me a pm, but be forewarned it is a bastardized version of a 1911.

Its basically a custom shop 19111, without the quality Laugh2

i just checked the specs of mine, a lot closer to my other 1911s. Sorry to hear about yours.

After having a few go through my hands, I have to agree.

Better to buy a used STI, Ruger, Remington over a new SAM.

Bargain and 1911 really are words that should not be adjacent to one another if one wishes to be truly content.

Sorry to hear about the Sam issues. A possible inexpensive alternative to save something from this might be to get a Norinco A1 frame and use the slide and barrel from the SAM. Make sure the upper fits on/functions with a Norinco. I know there are a lot of Norinco 1911's out there that have been tweeked to perfection. They are good quality steel and able to take most aftermarket parts. Grip panel screws are threaded metric and there may be other minor things but it specs out pretty good.
Just a thought....

I don't like where this is going.....I bought the one that was on the EE recently, because I wanted a .40 S&W on the 1911 platform. Waiting on the transfer to be completed.
Hoping for the best!

It's a nice pistol, as is.

Just don't expect upgrades without fitting, on mine the msh needed to be fitted.

so I just left mine stock

with the loose tolerances in all manufactures be it either guns or parts you will have to fine tune pretty much any after market 1911 part.
i put a new ambi safety on one of my SAMs and it was no different then when i put one on my other 1911's.
i picked up a nice trigger off of Dlask a couple years back, i have yet to find a gun that that trigger 'drops into'.
ive come to the conclusion that anything i pick up for my 1911's im gonna have to do some work on to get it to work.
but ya, SAMs seem to need a bit more then most.
i wonder if it is because they hand fit them all so they are already shaved down and filed down and such, or is there starting pieces just wayyyyy out of whack.

They do brag about both CNC and hand fitting... A few month ago some shooters found that the accessory rails were apparently useless.

For a msh to have to be fitted just to slide in, tells me of their tolerances.

i also notice the slide is overall wider as i try to use my O6 in it, and it won't even go in properly to my safariland paddle holster. Evey other 1911 i have fits no problem, my colt, sig, sti, para, kimber, etc... anyone want to by an Omenga6?

Mine's very accurate and reliable after I changed out the clip with a Wilson Combat .45.

Shot mine for IPSC classic last year. Almost made B class from middle D the year before. Can't complain about the pistol at all. Changed the sights, grips, mainspring (added mag well), guide rod to GI from full length, recoil spring and trigger. All in I am at about $850 with gunsmith time included . Going to shoot it again this year.

day off, was bored, so out to the shop with a hand full of gun!

took 2 norinco's, ruger, kimber and a SAM thunderbolt.

took them all down and started intermixing all the parts.

the barrel bushing was 1 of 2 parts that would not work on all the guns.
the SAM's cut for the barrel bushing was just a 1/1000000 off from most of the guns, exception being the norinco which it fit on the SAM.
other problem was the same frame would not accept any of the other slides, some would go half way down, some would go all the way back to the ejector fin thingy, the Kimber would not go on at all.
on the flip side all the other slides went onto the SAM slide.
the kimber was uber tight, rest went on fine.
all the other small parts interchanged with no problem, some tighter then others as to be expected.
overall it was exactly what i was expecting, i fully expect 99% of 1911 parts to require some sort of fitting to any gun to work.

for fun, put together a Franken1911.
Norinco frame
SAM Slide
SAM extended slide stop
Kimber Barrel
Ruger recoil spring and plug.

was a fun test.

EGW flat checkered MSH, STI strut and firing pin, STI trigger, no fitting with anything except the height of the trigger shoe.
I had a custom cut bushing made at EGW for it as well and it fits all 3 of my SAM'S, the barrel diameters were all within 1 thou, same with the bushing cut in the slide.
