I got to handle one of these SAR 21 bullpup rifles at a trade-show in Singapore and I was wondering if it would be possible to have them made/imported as NR rifles? very nice handling rifle with lots of possible add-ons.

Singapore is typical of most SE Asian countries with super tough gun laws. I believe, mere possession of a live round results in a prison sentence. Having said that, I read somewhere that the SAR-21 is exported to the US. Not sure if they are strictly for LE use or there is a SA civilian version. Would be a nice bullpup to have here. Kinda like a Steyr mated to a Tavor with a hint of a G36.

Laws concerning citizens in the country of manufacture usually have little to do with selling to other countries...
I doubt many chinese own m 305 rifles!

China is a bit unique in that regard. Many countries have a clause built in retaining their domestic military rifles (including neutered options) from being exported. Japan for instance.

Anybody know about them? Wonder if any importers have considered them or contacted them. I do believe some were exported to the USA.
I did look at them at a trade show BTW so I would assume they are interested in selling! I should have talked to them...

ST Kenetics dosnt export to civies, LE/MIL only.

Im still amazed that companies still willfully by their own accord limit their market share... Isnt the point to get more sales as opposed to less sales? More profits as opposed to less profits?
completely absurd!

If anyone ever did make a NR one Id be in for a reasonable price. I like my ugly bullpups.

Maybe if they were happening get ar mags instead of proprietary lol.

They're an interesting gun.

Unfortunately proprietary magazines, kind of a weird trigger pull.

Quite controllable in FA and Burst though.

I didn't realize the SAR-21 didn't take STANAG mags. Why would the SAF accept a rifle that didn't take AR mags when their issue rifle was once the M-16? i'm sure they still have a stockpile of ARs in reserve so why no mag compatiblity?

Interesting bullpup. Field stripping and cleaning is a snap. If they were ever imported at a reasonable price I'd definitely be down to add one to the gun safe.

I thought I read in another thread that someone had one at the lab for verification?

IRG maybe?

That doesn't seem to jive with the info in this thread but I'm pretty sure that's what was posted.

The SAR21 is a pretty ergonomic rifle in general, and I can find only a few minor faults wit it. The quality is definitely better than the Norinco T95, and it is in the same league as the TAVOR and AUG in workmanship.

The main issue with the SAR21 is the formula of the plastic receiver. Word is that it loses strength in low temp. Singagpore is not exactly a cold country so they probably let it pass. It is also a heavy rifle, that tips the scale over 8.5lb. The SA guys commented that it tended to recoil more sharply than other rifles, and to the right, and I agreed with them after shooting the AUG and TAVOR. It felt like shooting a slightly overgassed short stroke push rod gun.

They did try to sell to LE in the US 15 years ago, but that kinda died away quietly after a splash in marketing. My personal feeling it is on the way out, as STK is looking at a new rifle already. They may go for a wholesale replacement instead of fleet upgrade in couple years.

Are you sure? Aside from having to store their guns at a range, they can apparently own any type of firearm they want according to their version of our firearms act, including automatics.
