Saskatchewan declares war on gophers

Hey I'm just wondering what you guys do with gophers after you shoot them? Is there fur or meat good for anything?

leave them where they die....one patch I shoot in has a Badger that likes the effortless meals....you shoot a few gophers and the badger eats them.

Some of the gophers buddies will try and drag em off...they are canibals so they get shot too.

Just gotta get a Sask local with a big Ranch to organize a CGN shoot I'm so up for a road trip right now.
From my past experience with CGN meets, even just for beers, I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot poll. Too many people claiming to know the rules but handle a gun like a dumb ass.

I'd do an invitational but I'm in the middle of butt f**k nowhere. 4 hours from Calgary, 2 hours from Saskatoon, 1.5 hours from Medicine Hat. So you've got a hell of a drive and a hunt that is based on the weather. Cloudy, windy days don't promote gopher shooting. 99% of our days are windy.

Plus all you city turds get pissy that we take a case of beer gopher shooting.

Armedsask, you do have a way with words.
I take it your south of Kindersley, maybe near Mendham or Burstall? My family has a 1/2 section out there.
For the "city turds", thats 800 meters x 1600 meters ;)

:D not really hunting so I don't think that the wildlife act applies, but you could certainly get them arrested for tresspassing :D
Who are you to tell us Sask boys what you can and cannot eat :D
But ya, we call it shooting gophers, not hunting. They are wile creatures to be sure, you have to whistle just right to get them to stand up like a stiff #### :D

Seems like a good opportunity for Saskatchewan folks to start up some gopher hunting bed and breakfasts :ar15::cheers:

YEAH!!!

With a back deck exposed to open prairie, maybe even a second floor deck with waitresses.

"Here you are sir, a caesar, a margarita, two pints and a brick of .22's. Nice weather we're having today, gophers are running wild and there is a top prize of $1000 for the fattest!"

I miss Saskatchewan (but not in the winter)...

No, I don't drink before/during shooting/hunting. Yeesh.

MAn i love CGN! You guys had me tearing up!! Me and Snipz are in! We need some of these land owners to get on here and set up some shoots! *singing*
"we can be hero's"

So...anyone out in SK willing to welcome a couple of Ontario guys to come out and shoot a few gophers? We'll bring our own tents and everything, just give us a piece of land to shoot on :sniper:
Getting permission to shoot gophers in SK is a simple as it gets. Pick an area you wish to "hunt" in and go for a drive. Spot a couple fields littered with gophers and go knock on the closest door. Be polite, offer a firm hand shake and be willing to sit down for coffee and fresh pie if offered. Then be prepared to kill more of them furry little bastards then you can ever image.

Maybe its time for a new rimfire??? I wish I could get out there and get in on this. Here in B.C., you can't shoot gophers unless they are on private land and you have permission. You should see some of the clearcuts out on the Kootenay River Road. The ground literally crawls with them. I remember one time I took my little brother out shooting there. At the end of the day, he tallied 300 gophers and that was with an old Cooey Ranger single shot .22.
I dusted over 400. It was non stop, and at the end of the day, there were still gophers running all over the place.
That was before the regs came in on shooting them on crown land.
