Being fairly new to deer hunting (last year was my first solid attempt at deer) I'm wondering if this weather we're having in Sask, specifically in the central part of it, is affecting the rut.

I've tramped about on foot, sat and glassed areas, and drove around a bit. Should I be seeing the deer out and about in the daytime, or not yet? Anyone from Saskatoon, Duck Lake to North of Prince Albert have any ideas on this??

I've noticed lots of crop still standing in fields or swathed.....makes it hard to tramp. Is my area perhaps low on deer....have noticed trails/rubs/deer in October?? Any thoughts appreciated.

the mild weather slows them down a bit but they are at it now.Haven't seen alot of daytime activity yet...
watched a 5x5 chasin does on my west hay field monday evening...rubs and scrapes all over the place too...
we could use a couple of inches of snow so that 1/2 hour after sunset wasn't so dark ;)

I was out for a solid day in the bush Wed. Only one scrape and zero rubs. I did see deer but no sign of buck activity other than large tracks. One friend spotted a buck bird doggin yesterday. I think we are just starting to rut. The next week should be good.

A bit of snow would be nice as long as it all goes away after the season. Global warming is a good thing :D

Rut is starting but the warm temp is slowing down the activity. The rut is triggered by moon phase and daylight hours, not temperature. Remember that deer can't take their coat off it they get too hot so they simply reduce their activity when temp is warm. But that said you still have the best chance to find a buck making a mistake now than in October. Target the mornings as it is going down to -8 overnight. Good luck.

Rut

We were out west of Gull Lake for the last week or so and we saw lots of Whiteys chasing does. It was not just the younger bucks either so I think they are definately coming into the rut . I haven't been out around Estevan here yet, but I am hoping that the cooler mornings have the big boys interested here as well.

Things are starting now. Went out this evening and piles of rubs and scrapes showing up. We even pushed a big one but my buddy missed:(. However, our second drive in a different spot filled a doe tag.:D

My guess with the new moon it should heat up fast so get out there and get busy. The deer in where I hunt are vert skitish this year so road warriors will be SOL. Get out and walk in the brush or sit in stands. Also, they are starting to come to rattles. Yesterday morning had on coming in but he wouldn't come out of the thick stuff to give me a chance.

I probably saw you if you were west of GL!

I took a real nice 4x4 muley at Dundurn last week and he was full blown rut. His neck was huge and he had a hell of an odour on the hind legs. But I have seen less deer overall this fall. Maybe due to lack of snow
