I'm trying to get some info on this rifle. I would like to get it in .223. Planning on using it for small game, coyote hunting and don't plan on shooting it beyond 300yrds. Anyone with info? Pros/cons? Thanks.

It's a great rifle. The only question is one of weight. How much do you want your system to weigh?

For your stated purpose, you might consider the Model 10PC, but you might also consider the Model 11 Lightweight Hunter.

Thanks for the feedback. Good point Wendell, I will have to take a look at the other models you suggested. I guess the weight can add up pretty quick, especially when you start adding optics and possibly a bi-pod. I will have to decide if I will go out more looking for coyotes or be punching holes in paper, where weight isn't a concern. Thanks again.

That lightweight looks good except for the wood stock. Personally, wood stocks are dead. Synthetic stocks offer a far better option with zero negatives.

The decisions you'll face when it comes to choosing the base(s), the rings, and the scope - even before you attach a sling and/or a bipod - all will have a lasting impact on the overall weight. Aluminum vs. steel, 1 piece vs. 2 piece, picatinny rail vs. Redfield, Farrell vs. Talley, fixed power vs. variable; 34mm vs. 30mm vs 1 inch; there are a lot of weight-related decisions to be made.

It seems to me that maybe one should decide upon the target weight first, and then proceed from there.

Zero negatives? Most savage synthetics I've held are flimsier than tupperware. I'd take wood over synthetic for that reason right there.

Im guessing you have not handled the rifle in question. The stock is solid as a chunk of metal. Likely because of the aluminum bedding block. Cant make it flex at all.

For the OP,s questions. I have had one for a couple years now and am very happy with it. Mainly used for yote hunting and gophers :D. It will shoot under an inch with most factory ammo i have tried ( superformance not so much ) Even deadmeat ( tikka shooter ) can shoot under an inch with it
Savage lies about the weight of it....it is a heavy rifle. If i remember right, mine is just over 12 pounds scoped (Falcon 5.5-25x50)

Did I read this right? Don't get me wrong the Savage precision carbine is a great bang for the buck. The stock though is nothing amazing and yes you can make it flex quite easily. Hell, you can make a McMillan flex.

The gun is a great bang for the buck. However, it is far from being perfect and there is not doubt the stock is the weakest link.

Yes it will flex if you torque on it. Just like any stock. But explain to me how it is a "weak link" How is it going to fail or affect the accuracy of the rifle?

Far be it for me to agree with sksavenger but the stock is not a problem. Could be a better rifle if it was a plastikka but what the hell, the hillbilly don`t know any better.cou: Seriously it is a good shooter and heavy.

I have a precision carbine in 308 it is alot heavier then advertised for sure and mine is damn picky on ammo but shoots a max's 3 shots touching at 200yrds.and even with the weight with the short barrel it is a decent handling rifle
