Savage 10FP finally finished

Well small update.

Finally made it out to the range for 20 rounds to zero it in.

Had my gf take the first 8 shots...this was her first time shooting my rifle...has some not bad shots!

Then I took over....My first group of 4 shots are toward the bottom marked in red. Then I adjusted my scope and was a bit high(the other 4 shots)

Then I tried to correct it a bit more and got closer to the center :)

all in all, I'm guessing it's shooters error, but before the upgrades to the rifle...I couldn't get a proper grouping at all... but I took it out the first time today and very pleased so far.

I'm very pleased with this rifle, the falcon optics menace would be a bit easier to use with the target turrets that will snap right onto the marking its at and if they jumped into the setting much 'harder'. Still, I'm happy.

With the Bell & Carlson Tactical stock...it feels so much better over the factory tupperware stock. I honestly felt more in 'control' then the other one. I have nothing but very good things to say about Jim Nasset(SP?) form rifle-accuracy and Bell & Carlson stocks.

If you want a good low price stock from Bell & Carlson, call Jim and his prices are amazing. He's in the US but ships up here just fine without issues.

So happy!...so far :0

Wow, good job! Looks great. Makes me want to get one now.

What kind of paint did you use to paint the stock?

I used paint I bought from Napa. Krylon Camo paint

Good shooting

you should tag along with us when we go to Silverdale to shoot :D

200 yards is plenty to work on your game :)

*sorry missed that comment:
Would love to go shooting with some people on here, good time to learn and pickup stuff I'm doing wrong lol :)

What kind of ammo are you putting through it?

I had 1 box of Federal 180grain ammunition and that's the box we finished. I have 2 new boxes of Winchester 180grain(grey box, can be bought in walmart) so we'll see how that shoots.

thanks for the comments.

thanks for the comments.

I try to stay away from hunting ammo, doesn't work well on a consistent basis for my savage anyway. Again, I have used Hornady Match with some decent results, it should cut your group size in almost half. In Calgary it's only $24 at WSS so it's better to spend that and get some improvement than to spend $20 on hunting ammo and walk away frustrated.

And yes at some point get into reloading, I've had decent results with Hornady Match, but I'll be adding a reloading kit to my Christmas list this year. Then maybe I can get those 5 shot groups that all touch each other!

$24 for Hornady Match???

I'd be on it like fat kid on a chocolate cake........

trust me if you get it to sit in the sun a little it will increase the pressure little more and make those pills fly nicely

Thanks for the comments guys!
I want to do reloading but as I mentioned earlier...can't afford the money/time just yet. The rifle won't be used for probably 6 months starting in April, so I will get into reloading when I have time after :)

Just wondering though...is there a 'rule' for adjusting my scope when I want to shoot to a further distance other then 100yards?

Let's say I have my rifle zero'd-in @ 100yards and I want to shoot to the 200yard targets, do I adjust my scope 8 1/4 mill(is that 2MOA?) adjustments up?
I was at the range again on sunday and I didn't understand how I would adjust it so I can hit the targets at 200yards.

Thanks :D

You need to know the specific ballistics of the rounds you're shooting to make precise adjustments at longer ranges. And even if you do know them, factors like temperature and elevation changes will still change the values a bit.

For a .308 zeroed at 100 yards usually you'll have to adjust anywhere from 1.5 to 2 MOA up to zero at 200 yards. If your scope has 1/4 MOA clicks (pretty sure yours does) you'll have to adjust up 6 to 8 clicks to be on target at 200.
