Both the amax's shoot well but if you can shoot the 178's, its well worth it. You may not notice out to 500, but beyond that, that extra weight will help.
Higgson power stocks them at a good price also

The Hornady 168gr Amax Match was $27 a box at Wholesale Sports in Calgary.
Wow, good job! Looks great. Makes me want to get one now.
What kind of paint did you use to paint the stock?
Good shooting
you should tag along with us when we go to Silverdale to shoot
200 yards is plenty to work on your game![]()
What kind of ammo are you putting through it?
I had 1 box of Federal 180grain ammunition and that's the box we finished. I have 2 new boxes of Winchester 180grain(grey box, can be bought in walmart) so we'll see how that shoots.
thanks for the comments.
I try to stay away from hunting ammo, doesn't work well on a consistent basis for my savage anyway. Again, I have used Hornady Match with some decent results, it should cut your group size in almost half. In Calgary it's only $24 at WSS so it's better to spend that and get some improvement than to spend $20 on hunting ammo and walk away frustrated.
And yes at some point get into reloading, I've had decent results with Hornady Match, but I'll be adding a reloading kit to my Christmas list this year. Then maybe I can get those 5 shot groups that all touch each other!
Would love to go shooting with some people on here, good time to learn and pickup stuff I'm doing wrong lol![]()
