Savage 10TR le/military

Planning to get mine out tomorrow and see if it'll hit paper or not :)

Sending you positive vibes!
We usually bore sight at 50M with bolt removed and looking through barrel.

My friends crooked savage, wasnt even bore-sightable. We would run out of elevation setting.
Will give you an idea what to expect at least.

It didn't even occur to me that you'd be able to make out the laser of the bore sight at 50 meters. Having said that at installation it was bore sighted, and the first few shots (at 100m) although very low and very left were at least on paper. So I'm fairly confident that my barrel is straight. After many clicks to adjust right and up I put one very close to center. Unfortunately things fell apart very quickly. The rest that I have wasn't very cooperative with the ergonomics of the benches there which made repeating my actions next to impossible. I need a bipod and a spotting scope before I bother heading out with it again. Maybe someone to go with who's done this once or twice before for some coaching *hint hint*

Sure we can find a timing. My next time out is wednesday afternoon, i'll soon start comming out on weekends, right now it's my last 50 bullets as i am waiting on my Mystic Precision order before processing my 2F brass, see if it can give me even better accuracy.
I don't have a spotting scope, but my scope at 27x can spot bullet holes of a 30 cal @ 100M.

Boresighting, on my end, was done without a laser.
If you remove bolt, you center barrel with target by looking through actual bore. A 30 cal bore is plenty visible to do this.

You still have your caldwell bipod don't you? Just don't fully deploy legs if shooting from a bench, and use a sandbag for the rear.

I got a chance to take the 10TR out this past weekend. Probably haven't shot this rifle in 15 months. I picked up some 168G Nosler BTHP because I didn't have any reloads to use. I truly forgot how satisfying it is to shoot a very accurate rifle! :d Don't get me wrong, plinking is fun too, but MOA/SUB-Moa at 200y and effortlessly hitting 4" steel at the same distance is immensely satisfying!

I shot three rounds at 200y to get my elevation, then shot the group at the bottom right.

Nice welcome back! Was having issues with mine and it turned out to be the muzzle brake. Put a new one on and will check it out this Friday. The new one is a Matador from Bullseye London, Ontario.

Thanks!

I tend to shoot at a bench at my club...not sure the guys next to me would appreciate the brake! LOL

The brake I used on my 10TR:

Reduced recoil down to about a .223, could easily maintain sight picture from 1,000m+

Shot very little at the local range, would always double check with people int he next lane before letting one off.

From a few years back:

Installed my bipod this morning and got myself a Crappy Tire spotting scope a couple weaks ago. Hoping to get out tomorrow or Sunday to finally sight it in.

Tested out the Matador brake and it worked great! Was laying them in there one on top of the other!

No one has complained about the brake at the club and frankly I can't hear a difference. I usually try to stay at one end away from everyone else anyway.

If anyone is looking for a 20MOA base for the Savage, Cabelas has the Talley bases 10% off this week. Picked one up last week, so I am going back in for the adjusted price. Of course, I had to cut about .5" off of the end of mine to make it fit with the XLR Chassis. Had to do this with the supplied EGW base as well.

These Talley bases are the equivalent of the EGW HD bases...hence the price difference over the standard 20MOA EGW base.

Mini update: A buddy texted me this afternoon telling me he was going to sight in his .308 (Weatherby) and asked me to join. Still haven't had the chance to sight mine in so I figured with the sun being out and the wind being calm it seemed like as good a day as any. It promptly turned into monsoon season shortly after we arrived, lol. I figured "Well, we're here anyways might as well run a few through her." I had my buddy spotting me before things completely fell apart weather wise and they had to close the range. According to my trusty spotter it was getting rounds close enough to be touching at 50 yards (even though they were way right) Hopefully the being off right is just a sight in issue and not a bent barrel issue, but I'll have to address that on a calmer day.

My friend shoots 308 with a caldwell
Only thing thats a pain is that his doesn't swivel

I run a harris, and lack field experience to say that it's actually better than caldwell. It's more expensive, heavier, and has more metal to it.

As someone who shoots off a bench, the swivel was more of a hindrance than a help so I sprung for a Harris earlier today. The build quality is so much better that it's not even funny.
