Savage 110 BA vs. FCP

I had both. The BA was built like a tank, but to me it felt like a tank as well. I still have the 110 FCP, I prefer the fit and feel of the HS Precision stock. It will definitely come down to personal preference.

I have a 110 BA - I like it a lot. Check 'em both out if you can and go with what you like. 110BA is heavy, very heavy, but it's for benchrest or prone shooting, not gonna be running around the woods with it. The weight does cut down on the recoil some, so does the huge brake on it. It's long overall too - iirc it's over 45" oal. The chassis is strong and solid. Also nice to have the adjustable prs stock.

Start re-loading now - .338LM gets expensive if you're not rolling your own.

As others have stated it's only worth the extra cost if you're a fan of the chassis system. I've shot both rifles and prefer the HS Precision stock. Other than the stock the rifles in the same chambering would be identical except for muzzle brakes. If you're looking at the 338 Lapua, the brake on the HS Precision model is very effective, recoil is mild.

Which calibre are you looking to get? They both come in .300WM & .338 Lapua. The 300 & 338 BA's are identical. The .338 Lapua 110 FCP uses the same action(different bolt) and same mag as the .338 BA but of course the different stock and muzzle brake. The .300WM 110 FCP uses a different action (standard open action), no muzzle brake and Savage's flush fit magazine. Something to also consider if you were looking at getting one in .300WM.

I had a 110BA in 300wm, the brake and weight was effective enough that I could spot my own hits at 500m. I would agree with the above that you aren't going to want to pack it, ever, as I tried this once on an elk hunt in the foothills of AB. I shot mine to as far as 1 mile with very satisfying results. It was reliably sub moa (like .75moa with 190 SMK's over retumbo) and the factory throat was nice and long so seating 208 amax's and 210 bergers to the lands gave lots of case capacity AND still mag fed as the mag is super long.

Its a nice rifle with some good features for prone or bench shooting, but even I would think awfully hard about the benefits of the tank like chassis if I was to go that route again, For the price difference I think there is good value in the HS precision FCP rifle.
