Savage 110BA. Your Thoughts & Experiences

I shot the 10BA in .308 this weekend. Precision seemed to be what you'd expect from the factory match rounds we were using. Didn't actually measure the group sizes, but those who were shooting it seemed to be getting 1 to 2 inches at 100 meters.

I would say this is a show piece. I didn't like the feel of the stock. Square forend was not comfortable to hold and the rifle would ring like a bell after each shot. Very annoying.

I am glad I had the option to shoot it before buying, because now I have no desire to ever own one.

I agree, 3k is what you could of put this package for, brand new.
Retail here is $2400 for the 308 version, the 338 Lapua is more, the scope was over $1000 then the rings and the Bi-pod. With less than a box through it I think it was a great deal for me.

Wow not my experience at all, gun shot very well and solid as a rock. I was getting 1 1/2" at 200m and this was my 1st time shooting it, so I think those guys you were watching need to hone their skills a bit. My grouping will be better when I learn what the rifle wants from me. I had several shots that were almost in the same hole. I cannot do that with my 308 and a Leopold 6 power scope. Gun is not comfortable to carry (heavy as hell), but to hold? Hell I was just hanging on :D Just kidding, I found it quite decent to hold if you do it right. Not supposed to hold the damn stock anyway! Besides I usual wear gloves cause I shoot my R.A.-XCR in the same sitting and it gets hot! Not one for loosing the feeling in my finger tips cause of a hot load or barrel.
Show peice only.....I think not, but it sure does look good, so it can be that too!

Oh ok, I was thinking you paid 3k for the rifle alone. Yes that is a good deal then!

Ya I think I did OK. Now to find cheaper ammo or set up to re-load.

I'm not sure you had a good example of this rifles potential. 1.5 MOA sounds like factory winchester grey box results in my 110BA.

Having an issue with the ejection of Hornady ammo (338 Lapua in 250g). Anyone else have this? Went through a couple of boxes of other ammo without issue but since switching to Hornady almost every shell got stuck while trying to eject it with the bolt. Gun is very clean and functioning very well otherwise. Could there be an issue with the brass, lubrication, or heat?
Not an overly hot day out (26c) in the direct sun with a black gun, not sure if that had anything to do with it or not. Was easier it seemed to eject right away than if I waited, I think but not 100% sure it that was really the case.
This was an issue with 2 different boxes.

Never had a problem with any Hornady, although I only put 1 box of Hornady through it, the rest were reloads on Lapua brass. Only ejection issues I had were on reloads that needed the shoulder bumped and they could all be delt with a bump of the hand on the bolt.

Somethings up with that rifle or the shooters. Savage doesnt make rifles that shoot like that. Ive shot the cheap 30-06 package deal that groups about 1" at 100m with cheap federal factory loads. First box of ammo through the rifle even, no break in.

Just incase anyone wants to know. I finally was able to pick up a chrony and went out today to play with some loads. I already settled on 91.0gn of H1000 which was doing very well. Today I went out and loaded 20 rounds with 5 seated at the lands, .010, .020, .030 and .030 was by far the best for my rifle. I will post pics of the targets later with the speeds as well.

Are you sure your lifting the bolt enough? I know on mine when I lift the bolt and the bolt is at the top of it's stroke I have to give it another "click" upwards but then it ejects the case freely. I'm going to try and post a vid and see if it works.

not to hi jack the subject but does anyone know where I can pick up the magpul stock for a mod 10BA. I really find the butt stock that came with mine ackward.Magpul dosent really list the G3 so wondering what to order if I can find one

I'm looking to get a mono pod for underneath the butt stock. There are two threaded holes on the factory stock (magpul) and I was thinking of attaching a small rail there to attach the monopod to (like the atlas monopod). I figure the bolt spacing is 2" c-c. Has anyone found or know of a 4" rail that has a 2" center-center bolt spacing that would fit there?

Thanks,

PA

atlas maks a 1913 rail (part bt17) thats got a single bolt hole and a long slot to accomodate different bolt spaceings

that being said, you will need to run your front bipod pretty tall to have a mono pob on the rear, the magpu stock is way more suited to a rear bag

edit, i take that back, i just thre my harris bipod on my 110 and extended it all the way like yours in the video, and stuck my mono pod on, and it seems to sit pretty good... that said i still would stick with a rear bag ove the monopod

I have a bag for the rear, a cheap bag and it's litteraly busting at the seams so I need a new bag. I figure that the monopod would be easier to have on the rifle than to carry a bag around. I should explain here. I don't intend on humping this rifle through bush and what not, but having a mono pod on there that would be ready to deploy quickly would be ideal.

You would think that with all the rails this thing has on it, they would put them where it matters. Like under the butt stock and up front underneath for the bipod.

What size monopod do you have? That would be my next question, what size pod would be ideal? I would think the BT12-QK 3.75-4.65" would work best.

haha well the 110 does come with the sling swivvle for the harris style bipods, not many run off a rail,s o i guess savages decission makes sense, and the buttstock is a magpul product, so thats out of savages hands.. the older modle of the stock used to have a weaver style rail molded into it with a smooth removable cover..

my monopob is by CTK precission and is 3-6" at 3" the rifle has about a 5* sloop up at the muzzle and at 6" its about 2* down with the bipod full extention and 7* with the bipod fully colapsed.

i shoot bith with a bag and the monopod, i personally find the bad to be much steadier and provide better support... the pod is great if you have all ad to sit and fiddle with the fine adjustments to get that perfect shot, but with the lack of support i dont think it matches the accuracy of the bag
