This old Savage is a family heirloom. The magazine has been lost and in order to look for a replacement, I should know what model it is. Or, it probably has no model number, as none is marked on it. It is marked "22 long rifle."
It has four patent dates, ranging from 1905 to 1917 and was purchased in the late 1920s. The forestock has a bit of a schnobble. Pay no attention to the rear sight, it has something added to it.
The rifle cocks on the final push forward of the bolt. The cocking piece has a knurled surface for hand cocking. The barrel is 24" long and quite heavy.
The bolt appears dirty in the picture, but there is no rust and the barrel is excellent, in spite of it "growing up" on corrosive ammunition!

That would be a Savage 23a made between 1923 and 1933, They made a improved version 23aa with speedlock and improved stock.

Those 23s are great rifles, they were expensive rifles back in the day. Twice what remingtons sold for and well worth it!

Uses a funny shaped straight magazine, the 23aa uses a modern banana shape mag.

They can be found at gunshows if you look hard enough.

Most of the rifles I have seen are roll marked "Savage Sporter" in front of the rear sight.

The magazine you are looking for will likley be marked "Mod 19 NRA" if fully intact it will have a small knurled knob on center of the floor plate.

Model 19 NRA and 23a use the same barreled action but have different stocks and sights. You could try Western Gun Parts and see if they have one.
