I have a Savage 12BCTSS or whatever, the thumbhole laminate, 26" barrel Varmint bolt gun in 223 rem.
Since new it has had no problems ejecting non fired rounds, but empty casings just get extracted from the chamber, then fall into the loading area, and I have to dig them out by hand. This happens no matter how fast I slam the action open.
I read a bit online, and tried grinding the ejector pin so it had about .020" more push, that didn't shange a thing, so I tried opening up the detent in the bottom of the extractor to let it move closer to the shell, and that also didnt change a thing, so I ground on the extractor to make it fit deeper and better on the shell, and that also did nothing. It still does the exact same thing. casing manufacturer also makes no difference.
Today I called the nice lady at savage, she said she would send me all new parts for free (very unexpected since I screwed with the originals) but I realy don't expect this to change much as nothing was worn on mine.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any solutions? My budy has a savage .223 that ejects fine, but he is out fo the country for a few months so I won't get a look at it for awhile.
