You guys are spiraling in all different directions.

I was the first to answer the question. I own over 30 99's, it's the lever bite. All that had to be done was take the lever out and drift it back over the opposite way to lessen the pressure on the lever bite. Problem solved.

How did this turn into brain surgery. No welding, no polishing, no screws at the rear of the bolt or reciever, just one good drift with a rubber mallet.

My money is on this ^ I've owned quite a few 99's over the years and had a similar problems . Failing that , take it to someone who is familiar with 99's , they have their quirks ……… just like me lol . Don't give up on the old girl just yet .

Holy can of worms, ok so here is the story, no im not a gun smith , im a metal inspector. the lever was just tough to open it took 2 hands and a hard yank. took it apart and cleaned it up. tried the magazine tension screw as suggested, did not help. ran the bolt in without the lever and it slid in and locked up nice and smooth. when you close the lever you can see it flex as it goes over the reciever protrusion. now for those of you who think im a retard, not completely true, I realise that if I GROUND metal off the width of the lever to lessen reciever contact that it would not push the bolt into full engagement with the reciever and that would reduce its pressure containing abilities so as I said i was polishing. Some of you must polish with an 8" grinder, and im a bubba huh, try jewers rouge and a buffing wheel, oh and I found this cool thing called a micrometer. The lever is centered and the only obstruction is the reciever. so to all that were helpful, thank you very much, one gent pm'd me with some great advice so to him thank you. now the rest of you......well you know the rest. So now feel free to make fun of my spelling, punctuation, sentence structure etc. and if you feel you need to rescue betsy pm me, 300 and shipping and shes yours.
