Savage Accutrigger experience?

Hi folks,

I'm in the market for a new rifle. I've been really looking at the Savage Classic in 30-06. I've never owned a Savage gun before, and I'm looking for some input from people with experience. Specifically I'd like to know how people find the accutrigger system to work out hunting. How durable is it? Do you find it makes a difference or is it just "one more thing to break". I'm not opposed to new things, but I am cautious. A plain old trigger has always done the trick in the past, why would I 'need' this new addition?

I have 3 Savages' with the Accutrigger and a 4th on the way. I love it. It is user friendly and simple to adjust, very little chance of screwing it up and having to have your gun repaired. The blade takes a little bit of getting used to at first but after a box of ammo you should be adjusted to it. I say get it and try it. If you find that you don't like it afterwards you can always swap it out for an aftermarket trigger later.

Ditto on that. I have two Accutrigger models among a bunch of other non-Accutrigger rifles. When I'm focused on the shot I don't even notice the presence of the blade but I do appreciate how crisp that trigger is.
 
Re Savage Accutrigger

I have a Savage 243 with accutrigger.
I just love it.
I had a Savage .308 with accutrigger and I loved it.
I used to be a dyed in the wool Remington Model 700 fan.
Not no more, they don't have a good trigger and their quality contol and their guarantees are no good.
Their customer support stinks, when it comes to warrantees.
I would buy another Savage rifle.
They work: PERIOD
 
I like mine too! Also like the safety factor that it afords with adjusting down in the lower range. It makes for a potentially more accurite gun without having to get professional trigger help.

I wish other companies could use them,....but I realize this is Savage's advantage.....

Accutrigger works extremely well but I don't like it: it's ugly and I don't like the feeling when I press the trigger.
I think that Tikka T3 triggers are the best factory triggers right now.
(I shot a Remington 700 with Jewell trigger)

The Savage Accutrigger is not really a "trigger" design. It's simply an automatic safety that allows for trigger adjustment below what the trigger components are designed for.

An automatic safety could be retrofitted to other factory triggers to accomplish the same thing. But the actual "trigger" would remain unchanged.

But they do serve a purpose and that is to allow inexperienced rifle owners to adjust their triggers without causing an unsafe condition. That's worth something to all of us. Better to have Accutriggers on the firing line than other factory triggers adjusted to an unsafe level by the inexperienced.

Give me an older 700 trigger, a Timney or a Jewell any day over the Accutrigger, and yes, I have all of the above.
 
I'm dating myself here, but I remember similar comments being made about the trigger on the first Glocks that arrived here years ago!!! Plus the "plastic gun" comments. New things take time to adjust to.

Anyway, back on topic, I have three Savages, two with the Accutrigger. I really like the fact I have a light, crisp trigger, but it can't be released unless the blade is depressed.
As mentioned above it takes very little time to get used to the feel of the blade.
Once one gets used to it, the light, crisp trigger is much better, and more importantly, a safer trigger than any other rifle trigger I've pulled. Oh, apart from the aftermarket double set trigger that I had on my old Browning 78B.
IMO a regular trigger set at a light setting is not as safe as the Accutrigger for a field gun.
 
I've posted this info previously, I have one Savage with the accutrigger in 25-06 and no complaints.
