Savage Axis XP?

If you want to target shoot then stock comfort and stability at the bench are important. I don't think your going to get that with an Axis stock and I don't think your going to find a suitable after market sock for the axis either.

If you want something cheap now that you can upgrade later then get a stevens 200, Rem 700 sps or similar.

The stock, barrel and trigger are all important for punching paper IMHO and if you buy a rifle where you can swap these out then you may end up with what you like eventually.

I like to load one round at a time at the range..I'm silly like that sometimes..A more hateful rifle to load like this I have yet to encounter...

I'm with you there. I gave up loading one round at a time with my Axis after attempting it twice. No big deal though, it's only a preference, not manditory.

I checked out some reviews on Youtube...i am impressed i think for the price and as a target shooter the Axis xp will do nicely.

I just ordered one in .223 from WSS. Total cost of $301.01 with shipping, tax and shipping tax (wtf??). Should make a nice little back up/loaner for taking newbies to the range and the occasional varmint hunt.

I bought an axis a few months ago in .308, it's definetely a shooter and a good value. That being said I kind of wish i would have bought a stevens instead for the simple fact that there are aftermarket stocks available. The one on the axis is quite flimsy, however i can live with it because i won't be shooting this gun too much, pretty much just for deer hunting. I bought a savage 12fv in .223 for punching paper and yote hunting because I will be shooting it lot's and can upgrade the stock if i want (I actually don't mind this stock, quite a bit stiffer then the axis). The trigger on the axis was very heavy out of the box but it was very easy to lighten up to a reasonable weight.

Go check it out in person, if you are happy with how it is bone stock then you'll really enjoy it, If you don't like the stock on it then check out a stevens or a higher end savage.

Do you buy your beer one at a time,or just drink it that way?Sorry had to ask.

Pretty dumb question on your part...

There is not one other rifle that I have ever used that one couldn't easily chamber a single round...Thats everything from Lever to pump, semi. and bolts...None..Any of these, you can toss a round into the open action, close it up, and your good to go...Not this abortion....Big fail with this Savage...Wouldn't wast good money on one..

Do you have their Website???????? At that price i may buy one from them too.
Thanks

YEAH.I guess what does that make used guns worth? Why pay five hundred for an old used gun, that was two hundred, back in the day.

I just bought one from WSS online for the wife. A .243 shipped to my door taxes in $298.35. I'm not a fan of the Savage but heck for under $300 you really can't go wrong.

I got one in .223 from Wss on boxing day, very happy with it at 249 plus taxes. Stock is a little hollow feeling, but it feels rigid enough. Came with a bushnell sharpshooter 3-9 scope.

Mystic has a trigger that would probably fit

But I would ask before I bought it

I believe Timney has a trigger for the Axis, but why out a $150 trigger on a $300 gun
