Trigger pull is at about 2lbs, and can be adjusted down to 1 and 1 1/2 or up to 6. Scope - Nightforce 5.5-22x50 w/ Near Alphamount and the provided extended length savage base. Other than these and the Harris 6-9" HRBM-S Bipod, the rifle is how it comes factory. 10 shot magazine, muzzle brake, and an extremely adjustable butt stock. This rifle accepts most AR-15 stocks, and just threads into place with the help of the A2 buffer tube. The rest of the stock is aluminum and about 16 lbs with my setup shown.

Since Im a lefty, the first thing I did was move the cheekpiece to the other side. I went out and bought a tap and die set, and remounted and reversed everything on the left side of the buttstock. It has a lot of adjustment.

Here you can see the provided extended base, with side mount picatinny rails for mounting god knows what, may cut those off.

I took it to the range last night along with a friend from the board. Followed his cleaning schedule he did on his steyr, which was 1 shot then clean until 5 shots, then 3 shot group, clean, 5 shot group, clean, 10 shot, clean. Done.

The pics below are how I shot. Note, this was only a 50 yard indoor range, so it doesnt mean much. All shots were shot a bipod. Ammo is Federal 150 grain Vital Shok.

As far as bedding, just savages 3-d bedding system with twin posts into an aluminum bedding block.

You can find these rifles between $1650-1800. Its possible to get there cheaper, with just buying the savage barreled action, then buying a stock by PDC, which looks similar, but this is a pretty good price for a similar factory offering.

Had one in the shop to make a thread protector for the Brake threads. The owner couldn't stand the noise the gun produced with the factory brake. I owned 1 savage Bolt action in close to 150 purchases. It was very accurate but would'nt eject the emptys after 2 warrenty visits so I got rid of it.(IF they won't feed they are junk)
If someone gave me a Savage Rifle for free and it was the best shooting Rifle I had ever laid hands on I would dump it in a heart beat. I really have a basic dislike to Savage Bolt actions. To me for a few dollars more they could really have a nice rifle but they are built dirt cheap with the minimum to appease its market share.Have at it but not me. Life is too short to use an UGLY gun!!!!!!!

How much does something like this cost anyways? I would like one done for the summer. Does it just thread over the brake threads and follow the barrel contour? Did your shop save the info to cut another one?

I have had the excact oposite experience with savage! although they are not a luxurious rifle they have proven to me to be the best bang for the buck and an absolute work horse. my savage rifles outshoot ALL my other factory rifles and a couple of my custom guns for a considerable amount less then the rest! although they could be prettier they have never failed me and not to often i go afield without one in my hands!

Relax fellas the man just bought a new toy and the Debbie Downers start coming out of the wood-works, save it for the Savage vs Remington vs Sako vs Ford vs Chevy threads. :kickInTheNuts:

TR11: Would be great to see what those groups look like once you take her out a bit farther.

Yes, it'll be fun learning through the ORA. Seems from what Ive read though, at the longer distances Ill have trouble keeping a 155 stable with the fast 1:10 twist, so a heavier bullet may be necessary. Not to say it cant be shot far though: as these guys seemed to go out to 1120 and stated they mostly used 147 gr ball ammo although didnt not the specific round used per distance.

Not sure where you read that.. or how far you consider far but my Savage 10 FCP Macmillan shot the 155 Lapua's to 700 very accurately.

Thats good news. Ive read that its more of an oddball twist rate than 1:11 or 1:12 to it prefers heavier bullets, but then again, others state that its very versatile, stabilizing 150s-220's. I know its all grapevine, but it gives me things to chat about.

The distance im taking is 900-1000 meters

TR11: You wont have any problem stabilizing 155's in fact you'll have some extra stability going on. If you where going to choose a bullet for strictly long range work you might want to look at the heavier higher ballistic coefficient stuff for the wind drift benefit alone.

The 155.5 Palma bullets and the Lapua 155s have the good BC and excellent speed. (3000 fps)

Match rifle, TR, Palma and FTR shooters shoot thses things to 1200M and in the case some, they do so with iron sights. These do only need 14" twists and this obsession with over-twisted 308's baffles me. You may have to throttle back your velocity because they may not be as accurate with a high RPM and going fast. Depends where the accurate nodes are with your load and your rifle.

Alternatively, the 175-190 grain bullets will have great BC's but not the velocity.

I handled one of these guns last weekend at the range and I have to admit that they are a nice piece of kit!

Don't go admitting that! :D

This is my first so called precision rifle and I bought it cause I thought it would be a stable platform.Initial testing with factory rail only gave me 9 moa adjustment with 155 2900 fps load, and 100m zero.Removing the rail lost over one pound.Testing with weaver bases next. I like the ergonomics of the stock and had planned on replacing it better looking magpul prs. Doesn't work.Length of pull is over 15".Another sore point is the lack of a rail for bipod mounting. I was fortunate enought to discuss what I think are weak points with Savage design Eng at SHOT show.Decent fella,I think he had heard these points before. Maybe we will see some changes. Overall I like the rifle and like any factory rifle , with a little tweeking will fit my needs.

I own the same rifle, except mine has the M4 adjustable rear stock.
With Federal 168gr or 175gr HPBT gold medal match ammo it easily shoots 1" groups at 100 yards. My best was .5 MOA

I'm very pleased with my Savage BAS-K

Stock fits me fine once I swapped sides of the cheekpiece. I am going to either remake the slider for it out of metal or epoxy the current one to remove the slight play it has.

Trigger - dont really know what you mean by only have 9 minutes...what scope do you have? On GunBlast, they were shooting out to 1200yds with a leupold and factory rail
