I'm sorry to hear about this incident with Cabelas and Savage. I guess he should have looked at the rifle before he left the store. Savage's quality control has definitely gone down hill the last few years. However so have other firearm manufactures.......
His rifle is totally fixable by polishing the bolt, bolt body, receiver and anything else that was a rough finish. Is this ridiculous? Yeup!......
But welcome to Cabelas customer service and pimple faced kids that work the counter. That employee should have checked the rifle before it left the store. The buyer also should have checked it. And first and foremost, Savage should have never let it leave the factory.
Having to contact Savage USA for any warranty issues can be a real pain and hassle. Unfortunately there isn't another avenue at this time.
This story is a good example of how we all need to check our guns before we leave the gun counter with them. Or don't buy a Savage. LOL
I've seen Remington rifles with the rifle bore drilled off-center, seen Tikka's that would not engage the safety, Ruger's with a 350 Legend blown out primer stuck in the receiver, Chiappa's that won't even cycle. There can be lot's of issues found if one handles enough firearms.
The bottom line is check the rifle before leaving, if possible of course. Mail-in guns are a crap shoot, it's how the business handles the issue is the concern for me.
