I'm in the market for a rifle chambered in 338 LM. Savage is offering a new rifle for 2012, the 110 FCP HS Precision, which I sort of fancy. Since I never had a Savage before, I was wondering if I could get some honest feedback on the accuracy of Savage rifles in this caliber. What I am loking for is a sub-MOA long range rifle - accuracy is most important to me. Any kind of input will be greatly appreciated!

Excellent rifle, just like the 110BA.

I am personally getting a 110 FCP Hs precision in 300 win mag though. 338 is too expensive for me.

Thanks for all the input guys! I was a Remington guy so far and never really looked at Savage because I was happy with my Remingtons. Then, accidentally, I held a Savage in my hands and the gun wasn't that ugly after all (no, I will not start arguing about taste!). And if the accuracy is there, Savage is definitely ahead of their competition in terms of value for the dollar. I want to look a little more into the 110FCP HS Precision (maybe even touch one before buying...) but I guess that rifle will be my next investment. Therefore as a logical consequence: is anybody aware of a good deal on this rifle? Or something that might come up in the next 2-4 month?

deal? no. maybe check the EE forums. Unsure though, people seem to ask as much as the new thing or 100$ less or something.... id rather buy new but you never know.

Theres a dude selling a 110BA for 2000$ on the EE. I dont get it. It's 2000 new. Whatever.

I shot the Savage 110 FCP HS .338LM last fall.

A good friend of mine brought his new toy out to my range and I managed to shoot about 10 rounds from it.
A very nice gun to shoot, accurate and I was very surprised that the recoil was not too bad.

I liked it that much I ordered one early in the New Year, and it should be here soon.

I have posted this before. I have owned a Savage 10BA for about a year and a half. Prior to shooting the FCP I was going to sell my BA and get a 110 BA in .338LM.
In the end I decided to keep the BA as .308 is easier on the wallet feed, get the FCP in .338 which will allow me to get out the .338LM for fun when the urge hits.
I also want to try my hand at 1000 yds this year and the .338LM is a great round for this!
As mentioned above, the 110BA (.300 and .338) runs around $2000.00 plus taxes. I've seen the FCP in .338LM up for sale new on here for around $1350.00 plus taxes.
One of the vendors on here, Juan Valdez (sp?) from Northshore Barrels had a few for sale for around that price not long ago. I think other vendors sell them for around the same. From what I gather, Savage couldn't meet the demand for the FCP when it was released, I understand they have some stock now.

Unless you are really into the BA look, I'd go with the FCP.
Remember, the BA's and FCP's use the same barrel/action/triggers, so you are paying a lot for the BA 'tacticool' look!

Hey, if you are in the Southern Ontario/GTA area, you are welcome to try shooting my BA and FCP in the near future. Shoot me a PM if you are close.

Try frontier firearms , I think they have some in stock for a decent price

Thanks for all the input guys! I will have to do some more homework before actually spending the bucks...
Blackacres: thanks for your offer! It is really generous! I would be more than happy to take advantage of your offer but I live in the West...
I will check out the dealers suggested in this forum; darryl781 - I will check yours out as well, just not able to go on ee yet, mabe by tomorrow.
Just keep throwing information at me - going through the posts is the best part of the day - except for looking at pictures of the potential new "Bride" (LOL)

5$ a boom with 338.... I guess most people cant afford it, including me. I'll stay w 300 win mag....

If you check the Fishing World (who would have figured!?), they are selling .338LM for $30.00 for 10 rounds. It's S&B Match HPBT, so for $3.00 per "Boom" it's not bad for this round. If you compare match HPBT .300 WMag to this, it is not a big price gap.

However, to really keep costs down and accuracy up, reloading is the only way to go with this round, including my .308 Win, and even your .300 WMag. In fact, once you get into reloading, the cost per round for the .338LM is not that much more than .300WMag.

Besides, how many rounds do you expect to fire per range visit?
Even when I take my .308 I only fire 20-30 rounds per visit.
Now pistol rounds are another story!!! That's were I 'blow a bundle' of $$$ per range visit!

Thats the main issue. Your cost analysis excludes brass.

Where will you get the brass and how much will you pay for it?
I get once fired 300 win mag brass for dirt cheap at the range.... where would I get 338 brass? Buy brass for 2.50 each from lapua, or buy expensive ammo and reload.... oh well. anyway.
