Savage Mark II FV .22 Bolt Action

I have the original Mark II , Lakefield . Has been a very nice little rifle for many years . Drawback is the trigger , but maybe savage has fixed that up a bit .

You can get the rifle c/w accutrigger. Best on the market in my opinion. I have shot one and have absolutely no regrets on their accuracy. Under an inch at 50 yards with a 4x scope. Much better with a 3x9x scope.

i have 2 original Lakefield Mark IIs also and the greatest gopher guns next to my Marlin 81. Accuracy undeniable.

I shoot one or the other at Selkirk Fish and Game range weekly.

I have the Mk II FV, with a bushnell banner 4x12ao scope. With good target ammo like CCI SV, or Federal gold medal target 711b, it shoots far better than I do.

The gun itself is amazing! The trigger is great, however I've had many problems with mags not feeding correctly. Am I the only one with this problem or do others have it as well?

When I try to chamber a round, the round itself isn't at the right angle to go into the chamber. If I pull the bolt back once it doesn't feed, sometimes it goes with the second attempt.

I have heard about feeding issues with a few of them, but mine is certainly not one of them. It works just fine, I have only had 1 incident where the casing got stuck in the chamber, but closing the bolt and opening it again was enough to get it out. This was a very rare event, and I have put approximately 500 rounds through it thus far, and it worked flawlessly every other time.

The accuracy is fantastic. Is it as good as a CZ? Maybe, maybe not, but it's less than 1/2 the price, so I can't complain. I have the FV, and the plastic stock is very basic. Flexes a lot at the foreend, and I noticed that the trigger guard is just a molded part of the stock when I did a complete disassembly on it, but it didn't bother me too much. For $200, who can complain?

I experienced excellent accuracy with mine shooting CCI minimags at 50 yards. Cloverleafs. If I ever get a chance to go out gopher hunting, this is the gun I'm taking with me. The 10/22 is fun for the "make-it-dance" factor of the semi-auto action, but when you want to make the shots land squarely on the intersection of the crosshairs, the Savage is it.

The fact that a $200 gun can come with a bull barrel (Ok, so maybe it's lighter than some of the bull barrels out there, but it's still a heavier contour than a sporter) and accutrigger completely blows my mind. Easily the best deal going in new manufacture bolt action .22s. BTW, I found the FV to be not that much heavier than the sporter barrel, and I compared both side by side at the store when I decided on the FV.

I just picked one up a couple of months ago. They are some serious tack drivers. Especially for .22's. Mine can easily get under and inch at 50 yards and so far I've done a little testing at 75 yards. It is under 1.5" at 75 yards.

Buy one. They are amazing.

Yeah I got a Mako which is the same gun in a different stock. It was my first rifle and it's more accurate than I am. Every now and than I have a feeding issue with the magazine but I think it's because I was using cheap ammo. It didn't like feeding the remington cone type bullets.

I'm considering this .22 as one of my next purchases. Has anyone had any experience with this particular .22 or a version close to it?

How about using the search function. This very question gets asked at least once a month here.

well I have no problem repeating over and over again, MkII is probably the best bolt action 22 rifle. And for the price it IS the best one for sure.

Hi Spazmo: I have the exact same problem, usually with the last round in the mag, although with Xpert 22 it happens more frequently.

great gun....crappy mag

I bought the same gun becaus of its awesome iron sights, but the mag that comes with it is junk!! Seems like the spring gets too loose after bout the 5th round. Then the rounds just dont feed right. Second savage rimfire with crappy mags. thinkin bout takin the mag apart to stretch the spring. Aside from that.......shes a tack driver. ive killed coyotes with mine and my buddy killed a hude badger " 80 yards with his! tried bending the mag to solve the problem.......decided to sell the gun and buy a henry lever gun. not much of target shooter. just want a reliable repeater for varmints

Spazmo, I had the same problems with the mag feed of the bat. Try to take a set of pliers to the front lip (where the lead touches), and bend out just a bit, so that the round doesn't catch on the metal itself. I found this instantly fixed the problem, and now I'm worry free after a few instances of dry firing in the country.

I've got the stainless BTVS... what a ###y gun.

One problem here... talking to a few fellow Manitoban's, is where to find a STAINLESS 10 shot clip. Cabela's doesn't stock them, and wholesale will order them, but they cost $10 more and I have to wait a couple weeks. I'm going to do a phone around today, but any tips would be appreciated.

Go head my freind best bang for the buck, or best buck for the bang...

Tasco Varmit 2.5-10X42 on it ;)

I have zero problems with a 5 round mags. Sometimes the 10 rounders have feeding issues with the last round.

Great rifle for the price.
