Savage Mark II FV Heavy Barrel for long range

Geez, thanks for the info.

But it's sad to hear that because it would have been my first choice.

I already own a smaller Vortex Viper without the parallax adjustment and this is my best scope ever, especially in low light conditions.

I will seek more infos on the new Bushnell scopes (Engage and Prime).

Thanks !

Honestly, try not to get too hung up on the equipment side of things. The most important thing is learning to read the wind. Try and soak up as much info you can about this. Also learn your ballistics. If you have a handle on that, you will do just fine.

At the very first "trial match" of the CRPS, their was a gentleman that finished in the top 3 with a basic savage, hunting scope and shooting Remington Golden Bullets.

He just knew his gear and ballistics very very well.

Textar, that is a fine statement, I keep that in mind !

I have trying doing something similar with my Savage 10T .308 by first trying at least 8 ammo types and finding the right one. I have been able to do some great precision at 100 yards, constantly.

I have also invested in a good scope (Vortex Viper 3.5-10x 50mm Dead-Hold BDC) and learn to use the Vortex LRBC.

Now I am looking to do the same with my soon-to-be-bought Savage Mark II.

1. Finding a good basic but clear scope with at least a 12x magnification.
2. Trying different ammunitions
3. Practice a lot
4. Then try the CPRS.

Thanks

I bought a .17 savage can't say enough about it, cannot see why a .22 savage will not perform for you needs.

The Savage .17HMR and while more expensive to shoot I actually shoot way less ammo as it is just so much more flat shooting than my old .22 German bolt action.

Going out Sunday to light up some gophers. :)

Hi randyhub,

No, they only allow 22LR.

Nice setup you have !

Thank you, I just edited it after I did some research.

I stand behind Savages I also have a .223. My buddy bought a Savage HB .17, and it shipped without a crowned barrel it shot HORRIBLE!!!

He was polite sent it East, they rebarreled the action, sent it back to him with a target, a new trigger group including the old trigger group, and a second magazine in 3 weeks!

Savage is really stepping it up, especially after the major QC screw up. :)

This looks real nice.

Thanks guys for the infos about the riser but I'm looking for infos on a scope for my Savage Mark II.

I'm currently using a cabela's covenant tactical 4-16. It has more than enough zoom for CRPS. It tracks well and is very affordable. Lots of us are using it.

The big thing is the Christmas tree reticle. Its a huge help for fast hold overs.

Best part is they come on sale about 2-3 times a year for $280.

@textstar, did you bought the FFp or the SFP Cabelas Covenant ?

I bought the FFP version. It takes to getting used to but I find that it allows me to zero my rifle faster @100 yards and all the holdover measurements stay true regardless of amount of zoom. On a SFP the holdover readings are usually at full zoom. Some scopes may differ from that general rule and be somewhere in the mid range of the Xoom.

I like it so far. I ran it all last week and put 300 rounds through just for fun.
