Savage Mark II FV Heavy Barrel for long range

I'm currently using a cabela's covenant tactical 4-16. It has more than enough zoom for CRPS. It tracks well and is very affordable. Lots of us are using it.

The big thing is the Christmas tree reticle. Its a huge help for fast hold overs.

Best part is they come on sale about 2-3 times a year for $280.

Hi Texstar,

Cabelas.ca have a sale, 20% off on the "Cabela's Covenant Tactical FFP Riflescopes - 4-16x44mm".

It is now 319$ instead of 399$.

They also have a free shipping promo so shipped + taxes = 335.99$.

Should I wait for a better deal ?

When did you see it at 280$ ? Recently or many years ago ?

Tx

1-2 times a year I see them for $279. I bought mine this spring. If your in a rush, jump on this current promotion. Remember it is a 30mm tube. They have Nikon rings on sale too I believe.

My Savage MK II FV c/w Boyds Stock & Vortex Crossfire 4-12*40 AO. Scope was around $300

My son's Savage B22 FVSR c/w a 3-9*40 Scorpion & Faux Suppressor

If my son would open his wallet and buy a better scope he would out shoot me with his B22.

I think the B22 is a better shooter off the shelf. The B22 has a better stock than the MK II.

Only complaint with the B22 is the finicky loading of the rotary 10 round magazine, but Butler Creek has a 25 round that works in the B22 & A22.

Both rifles like CCI Standard Velocity ammo @ 50 yds, not sure how that will work at extended range.

Thanks a lot CzyHorse, I will look for that model.

Combine with the Cabelas Covenant scope, it would be a nice combo !

Your Mark II is very nice with that Boyd stock !

Thanks again.

Just bought the Savage-MOD-B22-VSS-22LR-RJ-Limited-Edition that randyhub mentioned and so far excellent. $500 to the door with extra mag from Prairie Gun Traders. Savage target trigger 12 - 14 oz out of the box. Only scope laying around was a Bushnell Banner that I could not get enough elevation adjustment to go out to fifty meters so didn't bother shooting much but 10 rounds of CCI standard in one inch once I figured roughly were to hold, very happy. Just ordered a BUSHNELL TROPHY XTREME SCOPE 6-24X50MM for $330 and Bushnell has $50 mail in rebate. Looking forward to getting them together and see what I can do.

You should reach out to Jerry @ mystic precision for a 30 MOA rail. That should help with any elevation issues.

I've yet to use my Savage mkii for rimfire precision (no competitions nearby yet) but I've shot it out to 200 with bulk ammo and a 3-9 and could his the plate consistently. I've since replaced the scope and put a Nikon Prostaff rimfire 4-12 on it instead that I intend to use in matches since I found that 9x was good for 200 but wouldn't do me any favours further out. I tested different ammo a few weeks ago and found I could consistently shoot 1/2" groups off a bipod at 50yds with Eley ammo. I'm sure if I had a lead sled it would shrink the groups a bit more. My main critiques are the stock being designed for a child using irons because its too short and doesn't offer a cheekweld and replacing it will move me into open division. Otherwise, it's a great rifle especially for the price and certainly capable of hitting targets if you do your part. Once I replace the weaver bases with a ~20+moa base I should be all set for production matches

This combo worked nicely for me over the weekend.

For those interested in rimfire PRS, the CRPS matches are a definitely must do. Well run, tons of fun... great folk

For those in BC, there is interest in trying to do club matches on a more regular basis. Will post more details when things finalise.

Tons of fun that will not break the bank...

Jerry

How is it any different then the fvsr? Both are factory guns with heavy barrels

The line between production and open division is as follows:

Production division -
Rifle = MSRP $500 or less
Optic = MSRP $500 or less

Open:

Rifle = over $500 msrp or a rifle under $500 that has been modified from its stock configuration.
Optics over $500 msrp

More details are on the website.
