After testing a bunch of ammo (post
#1 and
#28) I took the CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Green Tag, and Eley Target out to 100 and 200 yds. Conditions were a bit breezy and inconsistent. I'm pleased to say the Nightforce with the American Defense mount returned to zero within 0.1 mil after being off the rifle. Here's the results at 100 yards after firing a few foulers/sighters in a clean bore at 50 yards.
It's looking like the Eley Target is performing well out to 100 yards and the Green Tag has a lot of potential as well. I'm noticing a lot of horizontal distribution with the Green Tag, especially in target "D" on the right that I think was due to the wind. I think with a bit more practice on my part I could tighten these up.
On the way out to 200 yards a funny thing happened. I cranked in 7.9 mil of elevation and I started shooting at a 12" target. Checked for my hits and nothing! Cranked the scope back down and checked for hits at 50 and 100 yards again, bang on. Cranked back up the elevation and started shooting at 200 yards and finally saw some hits. I never shot out this far with a .22 so I had no idea how much windage to use. Then I tried the Green Tag, 2 x 5 round groups.
The first group I shot was the one in the upper right. Funny thing about that one was that all of a sudden we got hit with a little calm spell and I decided to rattle off 5 shots quickly. I took a quick glance and I saw what looked like a couple of hits and decided I needed about 1 mil of windage. After the first 5 I held left 1 mil and printed the second group on the left as soon as the wind picked up again. I didn't even realize how tight the first group was until I went to retrieve the target, well for 4 shots anyway!
Then I fired a few foulers for the Eley Target and shot 10 at 200 yards, again holding left 1 mil.
Conditions were getting pretty bad by this time but at least I got all 10 into a 6" square. I had no idea it was going to be this much fun with the .22 out to this distance.
I'm going to try out the high velocity stuff next. Thanks for all the suggestions!
