Savage MKII Pictures thread

I just picked this up from Italian Sporting goods yesterday.
Ordered an EGW rail for it because I'm not a big fan of the factory tri-rail. Not really sure what kind of glass I'm going to throw on there, but I might be looking at a simple Millet TRS. I tried to put my LRS on there, but it just looked over-the-top massive. Maybe I'll try it again without the sunshade on it and it might look a little better. I have a Savage 10TR so this will be a nice little warm-up/trainer rifle (that cost me more than the Savage 10TR, wtf, haha!). Anyway, looking forward to trying it out.

I’m brand new to the Mark II but this thread doesn’t get nearly the same attention as the 10/22 thread, holy. It’d be nice to see more pics of these rifles. I’m going to get some new glass mounted on mine by this weekend hopefully, will throw some pics up.

Nice rigs you got there. I was thinking about getting the Mark II FV-SR and ordering a Boyd’s Tacticool stock from the states (couldn’t find a Canadian retailer) but then Boyd’s doesn’t ship to Canada. Midway has them unfinished, but then they don’t ship to Canada either. I decided, phuck it, just cough up the extra dollars and grab the TRR-SR, no more headache, no more hassle.
I’ve got a 10/22 as well, and it’s in one of those Archangel Nomad kits. It certainly looks cool, but I’m not thrilled with the performance. The magazines are a bit of a pain in the ####. I’m thinking about scrapping the G36 look and just grabbing a Hogue stock to throw it in.
I tried a bunch of plastic doohickey stocks on my 10/22's, Then after buying the MKII TR sold all the plastic crap and found a boyds stock on EE...
The Hogue stock is very nice as well, But I found it had to much flex.

Mine originally came with the factory synthetic that someone had painted with a grey speckled bedliner or similar. I had resprayed it with matte black Krylon but when this pepper laminate came up in the EE some time ago I grabbed it for my MkII [pre accutrigger model] .22lr:

Ah, tactical solutions comp? Nice. Hey, any of you guys have any trouble cleaning your Mark IIs? I've got what I thought was a .22l cleaning rod, but it doesn't fit. I also tried my bore snake, and that didn't fit either. Read some other forums and seems like some have had this problem on the TR models (maybe other models too?). Anyway, going to pick up a .17 cleaning rod this weekend and give that a try. Checked the bore, no obstructions, even put a few rounds down the pipe, but the .22 rod and bore snake just don't fit. These work just fine on my other .22s.

Here's my latest creation, MKII FV with tech sights.
So far I really like the set up. It was easy to sight in and a good solid shooter at 50 yards so far. I may be the only one in Canada with this set up.
I bought a MKII FV, bought and imported a set of MKII tech sights, had the barrel drilled for a front sight post and then installed everything.

TRR-SR with Millett TRS scope. Got a few things on order for it: Vanguard Pro 1 bi-pod, Accushot Monopod, Millett low rings (its got medium ones on it now). Going to take the shroud off and replace with either the thread protector or a ported compensator. Maybe some Arma-coat paint too. Will post pics when its all done, here is where its at now:

I picked up a .17 J Dewey Mfg cleaning rod yesterday and was able to push it through my Mark II. I had to experiment with the patch size though....first started with a standard size patch I use for .223/5.56 and it didn’t fit, so I cut it in half, and it still didn’t fit. So I cut that piece in half and that finally went in. Essentially, it’s ¼ the sized of a standard .223 size patch. Weird. I will have to tweak it and see what the best size patch I can use, but I was really worried about forcing it and getting a batch stuck in the bore.
Did you find the comp useful at all? I was wondering because I have a brake on my .308, and some will laugh that I don’t need a brake on a .308, but I have it not because I can’t handle the recoil, but rather for keeping my sight picture on the target and watching for the splash. I know there’s almost no recoil on a .22lr but, so I was wondering if it made a slight difference or no difference at all? Comps for .22lrs are cheap enough that I’m not going to sweat over it and I might just grab one anyways just to dress it up a little.

I think it looks slightly disproportionate with the massive Millett LRS on there, but we'll see when I get out there and shoot it, see if the sunshade is really needed.
