Save the .22 Lee Enfield No. 8s

Wow...the end of surplus firearms...even a bolt action 22lr is forbidden to pass on to civilians.

Sad isn’t it? I cringe to think that when the CAF finally does decide to replace their Hi-Powers they’ll likely all get tossed into the smelter. I’d certainly appreciate the opportunity to preserve a piece of history.

you can own these in the UK, why wouldent their domestic market buy them?

Because of Policy. The government won't allow them to be sold to civilians there. If anyone is killed with a surplus police or military weapon the government will be vilified. No amount of taxpayers' money is too much to spend, waste, lose in avoiding that.

After reading through this here I do not see any government Agency picking up the tab on this one for the sake of saving rifles. I would love to but alas, I do not really see a possible means of accomplishing it.

I would also acquire one, complete a thorough video review and recognize Wolverine for bringing them in. It is sad however to hear that this opportunity may not be available. The letter seems nebulous to me and typical of bureaucrats.

I'm wondering if conservation authorities in Canada would be deemed an appropriate "agency" to purchase these weapons.
I realize many and/or most are less than flush with funding, but they could turn a profit with them for the benefit of their "agency".
BC Wildlife Federation is just one example of an organization that might nurture a government to help it fulfill its mandate.

Just doing some free-thinking on this in an attempt to remedy the situation.

I'd love to have an example as well, but recognize the reality that it would be rather difficult to make it happen.

As an aside, if these did somehow enter the civilian market en-mass, it would certainly beat the price down on similar Lee-Enfield .22 trainers.

Is there any possibility of one of the provincial governments purchasing them, ostensibly for their respective hunter safety training programs, and making them available to qualified hunters? I doubt the Liberal Yukon government would be up for it but perhaps one of the provinces that is not supporting the proposed gun bans? Does anyone have any such connections worth pursuing?

I have a No. 7 and would buy a No. 8.
