SBR Magpul Backpacker 10/22 thread, here is my build please share your SBR Backpacker

As for the brake, the barrel is way to short to run a ported brake...it's just really too loud for me and the kids. I prefer to run a blow-forward type compensator like the Dlask as it still helps with muzzle rise and slightly helps the noise issues associated with a 9-12" barrel. You can see a picture of the Dlask linear compensator installed on the Tac-Hammer barrel in the bottom pic.

This is great info for me; I'm not putting together a backpacker (mine's far too heavy and not a TD), but I was looking at picking up the Tac-Hammer barrel because of its length and the fact that it includes the compensator. I'm sure it wouldn't be terrible at the range with ear protection on, but there's no need to make it louder than necessary.

Also, I saw your video with the 9" Dlask barrel; I'm aiming for something around the same length, so it's good to know that they'll still shoot reasonably out to 100m (even though my local range only goes to 15m, IIRC).

Finally, those stocks are just packed with features, and they look great to boot. I know what I'll be doing if I ever end up getting a TD.

Great looking rifles (you and everyone else that posted here). Gives me hope that mine might actually turn out decent as well.

I ended up reversing the rail and installing a long eye relief scope. I much prefer it this way, gets you on target very fast.
Its an older bushnell 2-6× pistol scope.. works great

Looks good, I’m going to have a similar set up as you, I have the tac 9” barrel. I have a extra Nikon XR scout scope I intended on mounting to my ruger gunsite but haven’t as of yet. Not sure if I’m going to remove the rail and install the magpul optic mount and a regular rail on the receiver. Any idea on how much of a zero is lost with a receiver mounted scope?

HUGE fan of this!

1) Whats the approximate cost of the total build?
2) Is it still NR?
3) Can you write our a parts list?

Many thanks!

I have a similar set up, I think the only part I bought new was the barrel, everything else was used off the EE and I'm all in for about $900 I think. Worth every penny, it is so much fun to shoot and offers hours of guilt free entertainment with cheap ammo and no recoil.

Great set up man, and thanks again for the TD. Hope to receive it soon.

Do you guys have any pictures of the short Tac hammer barrel WITH the rail, all assembled on the gun, preferably in both configurations, normal and forward facing rail. It would help me to decide what optic to go with..
Also, why some of you don't use the Tac hammer brake? And is the removal and reinstall of factory TH rail an easy process, or those screws are easy to strip?

Do you have the build list for the 10/22 in the first photo?
