Just putting this out there, as I've been waiting over a year for my SCAR... but having read this thread, the on-going threads on the Black & Green Rifle section, and private member group, is there something Questar could do to reinitialize the stalled discussions between the RCMP and FN? Perhaps do some reconnaissance, gather available background information, and provide a submission to the RCMP from various sources confirming that it can't be converted to a full-auto rifle? Or better yet, would there be a way to contact FN directly and request a letter confirming that the gun cannot be converted to full auto? Given that Questar is currently sitting on a number of SCARs, it would seem that they would have the greatest pull in trying to get FN to provide some customer service.

I used to think I was one of the most patient guys out there, but now even I am getting fed up with the wait. We can all assume that the RCMP aren't going to do their job properly and in a timely fashion, so do we have any other choice but to go directly to FN?

Outside of the basic customer service benefit, (ie) actually delivering the product to the customer, there is no need for them to "rock the boat" most of the money tied up is customers money and not theirs, they are content to wait. Needless to say that's why I bailed.

I will happily buy your preordered Scar if your tired of waiting....

I'm keeping my spot, but you could rent it for a few months. Enjoy leasing a virtual scar...

The RCMP is having a hard time trying to find a reason to prohibit it.

Well if they call it prohibited now it will be easily challenged. but still... I guess they are just doing anything to piss gun owners off after the decision to dump the registry.

They want to prohibit it, but can't. To them, they'd rather leave it unclassified. Essentially, that makes it prohibited, and doesn't leave it open to any kind of challenge. Too bad the CPC doesn't care enough to reign in the CFC/RCMP.

Unfortunately, progress is one step at a time. In Canada, we have a big uphill battle to undo the last ~20 years of needless gun grabbing, for which this is just a part of it.

You guys down there should pay really close attention to our story(if you are not already) as our coalition for gun control type sped a bunch of time talking to their foreign peers. On the taxpayer dime of course.:puke:

FN SCAR 17s with 18" barrel, fixed stock, and five round mag: non-restricted?

I am a US citizen, moving to BC on a work visa. I own an FN SCAR 17s.
I am wondering what the current legal classification of this gun is in Canada so that i know whether or not i can plan to bring it with me, (obtaining a PAL and registering it)

my SCAR 17s configuration:

it is modified to have a locked, five round magazine (locked to the receiver via the so-called "bullet-button" which requires a tool to remove it from the receiver).

the original folding stock is locked so that it cannot be folded. (i also have a VLTOR stock adapter that removes all possibility of a folding stock functionality)

it does meet the Canadian length requirements for an non-restricted semi-auto rifle,

it is not listed as prohibited or restricted on the rcmp list.
is this rifle truly non-restricted in Canada?
will i be able to list it on my PAL application and register it in Canada?

-thanks for any help

The SCAR is yet to be classifiable by the RCMP. I would advise you to leave it at home? or have it seized at the border?

very good advice...

yes, after reading the breadth and depth of this thread finally,

it sounds like the SCAR is floating in an intentional bureaucratic limbo.

there is only one thing worse than waiting on the SCAR to be classified so that you can take delivery on one that you've already paid for.

and that's, already owning one, loving it, and not being able shoot it or even look at it because your job has taken you to Canada!

thinking i might set up a web cam in my safe in the US, so that i can go on line and lust over live images of my SCAR!
