Schmidt and Bender Klassik - cheaper in Canada than the US??

I have many good scopes. I have a couple Schmidt, a Zenith I took to Africa, and a nice fixed. I don't buy based off warranty. If I had to pay to get one fixed I would, wouldn't bother me a bit. They aren't perfect, but rugged and great glass is what I wanted.

The Schmidt Hungarian scope looks very nice, and at a great price!

I can tell you, from my experience, paying more certainly doesn't always equate to quality and reliability. I literally paid for that mistake. You need to do your research and take your time before making a decision on any product. I also learned, the hard way, not to buy into the hype. The other reality is that there's the law of diminishing returns... but that's a whole different conversation.

... But there is a direct corrolation between price and quality... 1+1=2.... When i want no troubles and the best for my old eyes, i dont try to save a few dinares, i buy a Schmidt. YMMV.:ar15:

we all learnt from our mystakes. i used a meopta 2000 7x50 with german 4 reticle for high seat night hunting i never felt underscoped compared to the big 3 ... it worked for me while friends needed service.

To a point, yes, but with many brands you are paying for the name. I always find it interesting how reluctant scope manufacturers are to identify their suppliers and specifications, while manufacturers of cameras and telescopes have no such reservations.

Now we are talking

who makes castings for Zeiss, Swarovski and Schmidtys

who makes switch gears and turret Internals for them?

its all a game and we are suckers for brand names

quote from EU DIRECTIVE

The outsourcing of component production or external purchasing of specialized components to or from countries like Japan, Hungary, etc. is quite normal for high end telescopic sights producers. Stating a country of origin often does not guarantee that a product was completely made and assembled in that country. Some competitors of Schmidt & Bender however refuse to provide information to consumers regarding relevant (optical) components sources.

And you can now add China to the list because they do source from there.

They have to declare origin of all components in end user certificate when they export their PMII series.

so for all those China hatters you have to buy Canadian made scopes.

this thread is getting no where

basically it comes down to money

they are dam expensive and we shooters don’t want to pay it

if we buy it we demand it to last for 3 generations

and also “my choice” is the only choice and “you” should follow me

come on boys - let’s chill out

let’s get out there and kill something - it’s a wonderful day for that.

I would expect part of what you see for discrepancies in pricing may be due to where the store buys them from, such as buying from US vs direct from S&B in the EU. Same applies to things made in China but sold thru US such as Athlon. There will or should be duties involved in Chinese built even before Trump, no idea what they are/were for German stuff. Not aware of a Cdn dist for S&B.

Prices of a lot of things vary around the world. An Aussie friend of mine that uses S&Bs gets his from Finland, because at that time it was the best deal, between cost and duties. He liked good stuff too; was pretty proud of his Richard Near mounting systems.
