Has anyone had success getting a Schmidt & Bender scope repaired in Canada?
I contacted S&B directly & they referred me to Wolverine, who quoted $6-800 just to send it to Germany, plus the cost of any repairs, which I found just a tad excessive.
Just wondering if anyone has had any alternative ideas/experience.

long time ago i had the same issue with french SB. i paid directly the shipping to germany and got a lovely discovery related to warranty parts were covered but not manpower to fix it lol because the scope was over 5 years now i think it is 10 years and they cover 20 years for the parts but i will say contact the factory and explain themm what are the issues. if there is no repairs in canada nothing will be done here ...
 
What scope model is it and what reticle? Getting more difficult posting products. Especially if designed for Mil use. Mildot reticle for example.... then again P4FL/MSR2 is fine. Schmidt is therefore marking some scopes CM II instead of PMII.... much easier to export and even people traveling with firearms. We imported two firearms with magazines from the US to Ireland which was an affair of two weeks. Getting a few magazines on their own has failed since two years with our customs always returning them. Shipping has gone mad, maybe even more so in Europe.

It's an older 4-12 with just a plain crosshair, definitely not a MIL/LEO model.

Just write to S&B again maybe with a copy of the postage quote. Or just Fedex it directly to S&B?
S&B are a smaller company and very well run, maybe even explain the issue with the scope and ask for a cost estimate.

Suddenly makes me love my Leupold, Burris and Vortex zero BS warranties too.

as a matter of my own experience they will need the scope to give an estmate but again experiences may vary ...

it is certain that i prefer to deal wit vortex for the warranty but in a middle of an hunt in the middle of nowhere the best warranty is the one you do not need lol
 
Did my first Parachute descent in the Arctic Circle in 89. I get “middle of nowhere”.

I also know that broken #### is broken #### and Murphy loves folks who think it doesn’t apply to their price tier.

I live in South Cupcake these days just like everyone else. And if I can’t get it replaced without $1000 bribery they can keep it.

100%......that is why I prefer Leupold. but the same can be said for a $5000.00 vortex, S&B, Khales, Swarovski......if any crap out on your hunt, then it doesn't matter what label is engraved on the tube - and yes I have heard the old adage, Vortex has the best warranty in the business, AND YOU WILL NEED IT.

What's wrong with the scope, how old is it and where was it purchased?

One can contact SB in Germany directly. I'm quite sure they would speak English language. Their address/phone number is available on the interwebs.

It's also written/printed in the manual which comes with your optics from factory

Usually they manage all the shipping/import/export requirements if the scope is valid for warranty. They may ask for the serial number on the optics to verify owner...

I purchased it used and the scope predates the fall of the Berlin wall, I don't expect it to be covered by warranty anymore. It is currently stuck at approximately 6x at the moment, the magnification ring moves but has no effect.

I contacted S&B first, and was then referred to Wolverine by them, have since contacted them again inquiring if I am able to ship directly after getting the shipping quote from Wolverine (their quote was for both shipping there & back).

I also sent an email to Trace Scope Repair to see if they may be able to fix it.

Worst case I'll just use it as a fixed power, has nice clear glass and wasn't very expensive. It was sold as having an issue with the magnification, but I thought perhaps just the ring was seized with old crud, turns out that wasn't the case.

You may be very well out of luck for warranty then.
 
maybe not warranty the old scope but they have the expertise to do repairs.

I sent in my old,(early 80s) variX iii 6.5-20 EFR that used to be on my CZ455 to Korth for some work and had it back in a week.

I have a second hand Leupold Mark 6 I bought from a friend here on CGN. Good dude. Wasnt aware that the illumination had packed it in however. Scope was more than 5 years old. Called Korth. They said "no problem" (other than shipping to Okotoks, AB).

Leupold/Korth not only repaired at no cost to me but they cleaned and serviced it at no charge as well.


I have had equal experience with Vortex. Unlimited lifetime warranty. Fully transferable. No receipt needed. And close to the same experience with Burris - thos to be fair the Burris scope was close to new.

When it came time to buy my wife a bino set for bird watching, Vortex was an easy choice.
