Oh, probably.
That makes having several of these rifles all the more desirable.
 
The SKS was one of my first firearms and still something I take out to the range with me often throughout all of these years. They are certainly rifles of their era but not 'garbage' like some folks are making them out to be. I've owned several over the years and have certainly noticed some shoot better than others but it's not so bad that they're unusable.

I lucked out with my first one as it's incredibly accurate for what it is. 400 yards isn't a problem for it. And even with todays ammunition prices it's still on the cheaper end to feed. Pick one up if you can, lots of good suggestions in this thread!
 
I recall seeing them in crates at Del Selin's shop at $199. Have kicked myself for not grabbing one! IMO, they won't be banned, primarily because the FN have taken a strong position that these are hunting rifles in their world. Also, we can't allow the fear of a potential future ban stop us from buying stuff... this is what they want. These liberal "bleep" want to kill our sport...Keep buying!
 
In my opinion it's the best semi auto centerfire you can still readily find for under a thousand bucks.

If you want one, buy one. It's likely that the price of SKSs will likely only continue to rise.

If you care a lot about mechanical condition consider: There are a lot out there, and many have been abused. I would recommend buying either in person with a borescope or from a seller who will show you photos of the inside of theirs. Expect to pay a bit more for this.

If you only care that it goes "bang" when you pull the trigger, buy any old one that is reasonably priced. They just work.

Not sure if I purchased one out of province if a retailer would make sure it was a a very good one by examining the bore for me

PS - the "Matching numbers" is a sales ploy nowadays. All the Chinese are M-N unless they've been F-d with by a seller. M-N on russians is a real thing, but quite unlikely these days since many are 'Refurbs' anyway. Expect to pay $1K or more for MN Russian but inspect closely with someone who is knowledgeable on the details and 'scams' around these.
 
I just purchased a triangle 26 1963, matching numbers SKS that had been test fired but was packed in cosmaline when I received it. Chromed barrel, stock is in very good condition, not a mark on the gun. Slide doesn’t have a mark on it which tells me it hasn’t been fired much.
Purchased Chinese surplus ammo, have since put a couple hundred rounds through it. I make sure the barrel and gas system are flushed to get rid of the corrosive ammo deposits and clean it accordingly. Nice gun and have had lots of fun and will have lots more in the future.
 
I have been touring around YouTube watching some SKS videos and it seems everyone has an opinion on which model , country of origin is the best .

I mentioned in another thread that I’m quite wound up over the SKS
 
it’s a good, reliable, accurate and lightweight gun. And while people complain about the price, they should look at inflation. Your 600 Trudeau dollar mint Chinese SKS is a better deal than your average 200 Harper Dollar banged up Russian SKS.
And still a fraction of the real manufacturing cost.
 
^ Yep, See Posts 5 & 15 (if you skipped to this end) to see the diff in Russkie and Chinese bores (unless the Russ is a 'collector's' example).
The Russian pic is after Mucho-cleaning to get all the years of cr*p out of the bore - Copper, Carbon (used C4), & Cr*p. Altho it still shot OK - 4-5 MOA @ 100, partly due to my eyesight at that distance.

Just buy a French tickler and some ammo. It's not rocket science, it's not a precision rifle, it's a work horse that goes bang (usually) when you pull the trigger. Chrome lined barrel and good overall condition, that's the only 2 things that matter.
