I know I know.............terrible choice for a topic. But hey it got your attention.

Anyway........my daughter ( Trinity Angel here) is a budding IPSCer and was talking it up at school.

She mentioned to a teacher that a Catholic Shoot in Michigan had held a match and the nuns and students had helped patch and with stats.

He said it sounded like a great idea...................Which shocked the hell out of me.

Soooooooooo I got thinking that the Annual Feb Level II match might not be a bad match to try this concept on. The drama department is trying to raise $2K for new lighting equipment.

Our last L2 in February had 74 shooters..........
If we charge $30 per shooter with $3 going to IPSC we would have $27 left over. Say $5 per shooter for EESA to pay for heat and targets etc and you have $22.

If we had 75 shooters that would be over $1600 for the school. If I use the same squad times as the Three gun match I would be able to have a maximum of 120 shooters or even more!! Which means we could concievably buy the whole shebang for the kids!

Of course this would play VERY well with the local media.

I have not approched the EESA BOD about the idea as I am still toying with it. It all comes down to the numbers I guess. Do you guys think we could get 75 or 100 shooters out to such an event in February??? Hell I could even host in earlier if I had some help with stage design.

We've been playing with a similar idea for one of our larger matches next year; approaching a cadet or boy scout group for workers in exchange for money to put towards their projects. Please keep us informed.

I've been playing around with a few stage designs.
I can show you them at the 3 gun or fax them to you for approval

would the whole match be indoors or outdoors too ? in Febuary.
Either way, I'd show up. I gather it will be hard to get many shooters out if there are outdoor stages ?

No there will not be any outdoor stages. But as you have seen the EESA indoor range there is not problem putting on plenty of stages in the indoor only.

Like I said Last year we had 74 shooters in February.

Mind you...............we might be better off waiting for spring so we can use all the ranges and use more SLAVES!

No, don't wait for spring. February is a good month for your L2 as no-one else nearby has anything more than a L1 over the winter.(to the best of my lousy memory  )

Oh I will be hosting a L2 in February regardless...........last years was very well attended.

But if we host one for the school it might be better to wait till spring. We could put more shooters through which would mean more money for the school. Not to mention we can use more of their help on a match that uses all the ranges.

Just kicking ideas around.

But rest assued the EESA Blizzard Beach Blast II will be held in February!

Good idea. I was thinking about ways for us to get some positive media. Your idea is excellent and you are helping students and exposing them to our sport as well.

My daughter just came back from work and says that she will present both options to her teacher tomorrow.

Feb L2 needing 10 kids or so with limited income potential.

Spring Super L2 needing 20 kids or so with the potential to pay for all the lighting needs.

Of course this all requires the approval of the EESA BOD. But since none of them other than me do any of the workn for these matches I doubt it should be much of a problem. It is only the loss of income for the club that we would need to worry but about but that must be balanced against community good will which is valuable in its own right.

In a Spring Match I could forsee at least 15 or 16 stages.........should be challenging to say the least. Hell almost LIII in proportions!!! Hmmmm maybe I am biting off more than I can chew..........EESA only has 4 actual Range officers including me and no current CRO ( although I am a CRO canidate).

Really leaning to a spring match...........

Mind you the weather gods hate me.

We could easily fit 3 stages in our indoor range with no doubling up props.

On the two IPSC rated outdoor ranges we can fit 4 more stages with room to spare

So right away we are looking at 11 stages.

If I get the back end of our 300 m range certified ( which I do not think would be a problem) we can add 3 or 4 more stages.

thats 14-15 stages!!! on 4 active ranges over a two day period.

My working title for the match is Drama Daze............ :p
EESA being a relatively small IPSC club as well as new to hosting matches of any calber always has a problem with manpower. This just might be the best idea for us to put our facility to its best potential.

Storm, I'd come over for that and if you want I may be able to arrange for some police tac guys and K9 handlers to show up and put on a display of gear and pooch stuff. I know that ain't a whole lot but any kids there might find that stuff kinda cool. :)

Steve,

What was the temporary link you used to post your picture.....you told me @ gormley but I forgot
A friend put it on a hosting site he has & I used his link. other wise, you can download from following the instructions on this site, but it has to be...
like only 5kb or close to that or it will not be accepted, not to crowd the memory of this site.

See ya later at Gormley ?

getting kids to help

Getting young people to help and paying them is an excellent idea, especially school kids. Schools are always looking for ways to raise money for clubs etc. and this is a win-win.

In Florida where I shoot sporting clays in the winter, we have had scouts, ROTC, and the UCF Girl's Rugby Team and Cheerleaders act as trappers. The latter were excellent because they are bright and easily trained and did an excellent job.

Getting into schools is tough. We offered to buy a year book ad for from one of our juniors and were turned down because of a lack of knowledge and probably a lot of pre-conceived ideas on the part of the school administrators. Our offer was taken from the classroom teacher to the principal, to the superintendent, to the school council and was turned down.

Clubs should pursue this particularly with secondary and university year books. It's good exposure for the club, and will help break down the guns=bad preconception that is prevalent everywhere
