So I took a chance on one of the single shot 22's at Tradex with the double set triggers almost a couple years ago.

Long story short, life happens, and I haven't been able to really go shooting for way too long, but I fixed that today and tried this thing out on propper targets with decent ammo. This thing is a behemoth, around 16lbs with a 28.5" barrel. The double set trigger is supposed to be set at 1.5oz, with no creep. Today was the first time I've really shot for groups with it, and I'm impressed. I pretty much suck at shooting, especially with irons, but this thing seems like it will make anyone look like a hero. These were shot with Eley Practice, with a bag for a front rest and adjusting the butt hook for elevation.

I think the inconsistent groups are partly due to the rear sight being loose, I noticed that and tightened the screws for the last 2 groups, the rest of them were shot with it loose, but mostly with the brim of my hat touching the rear peep for each shot. I can't wait to try it again with some slightly bigger targets and a better rest. Time to invest in a good diopter and some higher end ammo too I think.

Since last fall I've cleaned this rifle up a bit and the stock has gotten some linseed oil over the winter. I steamed out a few dings, and scrubbed the stock with acetone and lacquer thinner to remove probably 50 years of grime and gunk from the wood. The stippling and the trigger group area we're particularly nasty. I wet sanded it with linseed oil to 400 or 600 grit to fill the pores, then I did 3 coats the first week, a couple coats a week apart, then 2 weeks, and now once every 4 weeks. Buffed with fine steel wool and a rag before each application, then rub the oil in. It still probably needs a few more coats, and maybe some wax to bring up the gloss a bit, but it's definitely an improvement.

Awesome looking rifle and great shooting. I've looked at those rifles different times on tradex site and debated picking one up. Seeing yours is definitely making think more about one.

Thanks guys. I was looking at another one that had the rear site removed and scope bases installed, but someone bought it already. Only took a little over a year. It had quite a bit plainer wood, or I would have bought it too. This was one of the more expensive ones they had, I think I paid $800 for it. I can't say I regret it though. Hopefully this summer I can get into the 1/2 @ 50 yards club with it.
