I'm going to buy another .22 . I'm looking at both the Russian Vostok single shot and the Schultz and Larsen.
Both have similar features , rear aperture and tunnel front sight , similar weight , heavy barrels, etc.
Both were made as target rifles.
They are close to the same price. Both need the stocks cleaned up and redone. ( I would oil finish).
Does anybody have both , or had both at one time , and could share their opinions or preference for one over the other? I would suspect them both to be acceptably accurate. The Russian seems to be a little more rare these days. Any thoughts?

I have not had a Vostok, but I have a few S&L currently and a Walther and Anshutz. I will say that the S&Ls are VERY accurate for the price, but are not in the same league as the German target rifles. Still, they are one of my favs.

People sometimes overlook what they don't know well. S&L made very good barrels after WW2 until Danish society priced itself out of competition. I'm sure their rifles were just as good. And, you are supporting a NATO ally, even if after the fact.

Hm. I have had a few of these mentioned. Unless getting the top tier Vostok, I would gravitate to Schultz and Larson for the best bang for the buck.

Older Walther's and Anschutz are amazing, but they are not inexpensive.

I'd try one of the Schultz and Larsen's from tradex that have the double set triggers if you want a really nice rifle for what's still decently cheap. I don't have any experience with a Vostok, but I'm pretty happy with my M61, especially after cleaning it up a bit.

25 yards with Eley practice and a loose rear sight.

I've also got an M70, and it's accurate, high quality rifle, but it feel like an old Cooey after shooting the M61. The M61 has a 1.5 oz trigger pull that takes a bit to get used to, and it's also a lot heavier.

" 25 yards with Eley practice and a loose rear sight." LOL. Anything less than 50 yards I just throw rocks at. At 25 yards I throw left handed , just to be sporting.

Unlike most of the replies here I have no experience with the S&L. But many years ago I was doing a bit of club level .22 Canadian sporting rife shooting. So if memory serves me correctly ( this was 45years ago) I saw a Vostok on in a local shop that I decided I needed to replace a CIL 180 that I had been shooting. I think there was a model # stamped on it, but can not remember what it was. The heavier barrel I think was the big selling feature for me. The heavy barrel along with the Poplar wood stock ( not kidding) it made the weight limit.
It had a heavy duty receiver sight ,at least when compared to the tinny anchutze sight the 180 had. I believe the barrel was 26 or 27 inches long. The trigger pull While quite light was about a half a mile long. Trigger design was very simple . Kind of reminded one of a cooey. The bolt cocked on closing , again kind of like a cooey. lock time was not great ether . Assessment- a very crudely made .22 ( might have been made in the Balarus tractor factory LOL ). BUT it shot very well. For all of it's shortcomings I did shoot it better than the CIL 180
which was also a good shooter but a bit light for my liking. It was a single shot as well . As I remember it was not picky about ammo. It even shot that black cased Russian ammo available at the time pretty well. Not shure if this is the same one as Triggerman 42 is talking about. But I wish I still had the old thing , just because .

Well , it ended up , I didn't buy a S&L or a Vostok. I stumbled across a Mossberg 144LSB that was in super nice condition and it followed me home. Yesterday I tried 4 different brands of ammo through it. Eley sport (in the green box) , RWS target (in the black and orange box) , CCI standard velocity , and Blazer. This 144LSB is not ammo picky. It shot them all well. I may as well just shoot Blazer out of it most times. Ya gotta like that !

I have a few of the 70's and 77's, outfitted a few with adjustable rear iris's.
Some definitely shoot better then the others, but they are all very accurate. The M77 adjustable triggers are quite nice and can be set very light.

I own an M77 S&L and its my favourite 22lr to shoot. Pretty accurate too!
