What's a good inexpensive $100ish airgun scope?

I've had two of those cheap $20 tasco units from crappy tire, and I'd say after about 100 rounds, they start to fall apart-can't hold a zero kind of thing. I read somewhere it's because an airgun has a forward recoil component and rifle scopes are built for rearward recoil?? Any truth to this? Are there specific scope out there for airguns? I'm only shooting max 25 yards

Airgun Scope

There are a number of scopes made for airguns avaialable. The crosman 4x32 is decent and less than $50 and Gamo makes one. These scopes are designed to take the shaking from a springer. With pneumatics and CO2 it shouldn't matter.

You could try airgunsonly.com and look at their Hawke Optics. I had the 4 power scope and liked it, probably going to get another one for my Gamo 440...

Bushnell Banner or Sportsman

I have had the 3-9 Bushnell sportman in the past as well as the 4-12 Banner. Both are easy to come by and have worked very well for me. One of the plastic turret screws broke off the Sportman when it was on either my HW90 or my friends gas-rammed Patriot and when I brought it into Bushnell the simply gave me another one.

If I had to choose just one I'd go with the Banner as it's a little shorter.

The one major thing to worry about scopes for air-rifles is that killer recoil (parallax issues are a distant second issue, compared to this)...it can damage expensive pieces of glass while leaving many of the less-expensive ones intact (as many rimfire scopes are designed to be rimfire/air-rifle scopes, and already take into account the "recoil" of the spring-cocked air-rifles).

Well, you all already knew that...:p...so here's an article that will be infinitely more intelligent than what I've just said above ;):

BTW, I find this guy's articles to be plenty interesting and worthwhile...:D

Leapers make GOOD inexpensive, air rifle scopes. And red dots for that matter and they are dual recoil proof as well.

Have a look at Barska, they have a line of airgun rated scopes.

My dad just bought a really nice Barska 3-9X40, airgun rated, for under $100 tax in at Russells Sports in Calgary. For a scope priced around $89, and airgun rated, it seems to be surprisingly good quality. Time will tell, but I know he's very happy with it now. His Diana 24 is hard on scopes, and like you, he went through a couple $70-100 scopes already before he realized he needed an airgun rated scope.

Another vote for Bushnell Sportsman. They are a smidgen under $100.00...the one I have is 3-9x32mm, and it has worked well for target shooting. Some of my buddies have ripped my choice, saying that I should get a Leupold, but I a) can't find any Leupold airgun scopes at my local gun shop, and b) even if I could, I seriously doubt that I could afford it. I have had no problems with the sportsman whatsoever.

Centerpoint

I'm about to mount a new CenterPoint 6 x 32 Compact on my AR15, but it was difficult to find much feedback about the scope on the 'Net. Anybody else use CP?

Apparently all Bushnell scopes are airgun rated. Some are specifically noted as airgun, and these have adjustable objectives for short focus/parallax. The airgun noted scopes are from the Banner and Sportsman line, their lower end scopes.

Hawke update: the 3-9X40 that I purchased from airgunsonly packed it in after ~200 shots. Currently waiting to see what will be done about it. YMMV.

I'm NOT happy to hear that, I just bought the same scope.

Be sure to post how things work out for you and how airgunsonly handles it. Their customer service has been a little suspect in my case.
