Scope choices airgun specific

I don't think those Centerpoints are air gun rated. As previous posters have mentioned, "Shock - Proof" for a rifle (particularly a .22) is not necessarily OK for a springer because of the direction of the recoil.

Little new to the magnum springer airgun stuff.

Is it possible that a centerfire rifle scope that I'd happily put on my SKS or even my 12 guage deer slug gun could be ruined by a magnum springer?

Farmerbob, yes it is very possible. As I understand it many scopes that are built to withstand magnum rifle recoil, will not handle magnum springer recoil because the springer produces recoil in the opposite direction of a firearm and some reticles are not designed to withstand a strong force in this direction. Lots of stories of rifle scopes packing it in in short order. You need to know whether a scope is airgun "springer" rated. Some heavy magnum springers (ie. RWS 350) will even eat some of these scopes.

Yep, on most magnum springers there is some type of "stop" on the scope rail. On an RWS 52, the stop post (screw) is starting to embed itself into the rear aluminum scope ring after a few hundred rounds. The scope is one of the lower end Bushnells, 1.5x4.5 Sportview, (a nice scope, one of the earlier made in Japan ones, probably closer in quality to a Trophy or Banner now) and the scope is holding up well.

It says right on the package:
"Recommended for AIRGUN, Rimfire .22
RECOIL TESTED"
And it's from crappy tire, so if it breaks i'm taking it back

I work now & then for GMK Armouries in Thunder Bay ,and we brought in these 4 powered scopes marked RWS but there made in China? they function well and are crystal clear. They run under $100, I put one on my Diana side cocker 22cal registable rifle and am amazed how well they work, regards Dale in T-Bay:wave:
