First let me begin by saying I have never fired a scoped rifle, always iron sights. That said I recently purchased a SWIFT 4 X 20 WATERPROOF SCOPE at an auction with the idea of trying it out on my H&R 45-70, I did not pay a whole lot for it.

It showed up a few days ago and I immediately noticed when looking through the scope I get a good view with the right 'eye relief' but instead of making things appear closer it makes things look farther away.

Is it possible one of the lenses could be in backwards? Like I said I know nothing about scopes so maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.

Thanks, Retreever

Look through from both ends, one at a time. Use the one that looks the best to you. There should be two protruding 'turrets' that are your windage and elevation adjustments... Make sure the elevation adjustment is on the top when the scope is mounted.

Seriously when we first started bringing in small rifle scopes for SKS rifles, we would often get people at gun shows picking them up and look through the wrong end. A few potential customers would insist they were doing this on purpose so they could examine the internals of the scope body because they did not want to admit they were looking through the scope the wrong way even though I advised this was a common mistake. In the end I stopped initially trying to explain the people what the problem was and waited for them to ask for assistance. A small number of people would not ask or say anything to us and as they were walking away I would sometimes hear them remark to their buddy that these were terrible scopes as the objects they were looking at seemed too small and far away. I could only offer to help so far and then it is up to the customer to ask for assistance. Phil.

It is supposed to be that way.

I makes hunting more challenging.
