I have a Tasco 1.75-5x20 scope that I mounted to my 22 rifle. While adjusting the magnification it makes things appear farther instead of closer.
Anyone know what is causing this?
TIA

At 1.75x the target looks slightly farther in the scope than actual and at 5x it looks way farther. Kind of defeats the purpose of the scope.
I had it mounted on my 30-30 and seemed to work fine the last time I used it.

This thread needs pictures but taking a guess I would say the power ring might be a multi start thread and somehow you screwed it out and moved the ring then re engaged it on a different thread so that the indication numbers no longer line up to what the magnification is.

As many mentioned pictures would be good, I have never had luck posting pictures. I will take pics of how it works now and try to post some.

WobblyHead I think this is what happened. The ring was unscrewed from the objective part of the scope and I rethreaded it. I hope that this is the solution.

With the Tasco 1.75-5x20, the thinner end should be facing towards the muzzle with the larger end pointing towards your eye. If you've got the fat end pointing towards the target, it's backwards.

Sir you win the prize. I was sure the fat end was the objective lens and pointing out on my 30-30. It looks odd but works now that I turned the scope around.

Man I am a fu**in idiot, almost as bad at the guy looking down the barrel of a loaded rifle and shooting the hat off his head.
