picked up new weatherby vanguard in 300 win mag and it only had the leupold rifleman bases on it and I would to upgrade. I can't find anything in Canada, I have been told that Remington 700 are the same NOT. I know the good old weaver rings are rock soild but I find them really ugly and this rifle will be getting a boyds stock next year, the scope I have is a 50mm so I need something high, cabelas has nothing
 
bought a ! piece rem 700 leupold base and it does not fit unless I bend it, if I attach the base 2 front screws and snug them up the rear of the base is a 1/16 of a inch away from the action, rifle is new and so is the base
 
I've used two piece 700 rings/base on a few vanguards. The back end is alittle lower than on a 700. You could make a shim out of aluminum and make it work or order a set of talleys from prophet river. The cabelas store here in town has wby brand tally light weight.
 
it's a standard base, tallys only come in med height, sorry fellas it's 2014 and I am not going to shim anything

The one piece base for a 700 long action will work on a Vanguard long action. The same isn't true for a short action though. And the rear base for a 700 needs to be shimmed .008" to be a perfect fit on the Vanguard. I wanted a one piece on my Vanguard in .243, but didn't have any luck other than some really expensive ones with 10 or 20 moa slope for long range that are built for a Howa action (same as Vanguard). I ended up with Talley lightweights for a 700 and a steel shim and my first.shot was dead on at 100 yards.

There is an issue with some of the Vanguards and not with others. Some will require either shimming the rear base or Weaver has another slightly thicker base that will work although I can't remember the numbers right now.

When the 700 rear base is too low its 20 or 30 thousandths low.
 
Maybe the LAs are different but the SAs surely are not. I spent some time at a local shop figuring that out with a brand new Rem700 VTR and Howa 1500 both SA and one piece bases do not interchange. Weaver and EGW bases were tried with the same result as the OP. Are the long actions interchangeable?

I have scoped 3 Vanguards , all long action. .270 , 25-06 and a 300WM.

2 were 1 piece bases and 1 was 2 piece. All were interchangeable and part numbers were identical.

Maybe some manufacturers differ but the bases I used had zero issues.

Must be an SA thing then, but OP says his doesn't line up. I'm stumped.
