Scope on revolver

I fixing to buy a scope mount and scope to mount on my Freedom Arms M83 .454. I can buy the base for $39 and the rings for about the same $ from Leupold. The scope I have found is a Bushnell 3200 with long eye relief, about $389 CDN. There are other options out there.

Do you people think the 3200 will handle the kick from the .454? I don't think I can handle it LOL! The kick is brutal. I bought a used 3200 and mounted it on a .22LR and the zero is way off the second time I shot it, but I need to research this and make sure everything is kosher on the mounts etc. I don't think I want another used scope though, especially at next to new cost.

Looking for thoughts on a hand gun scope. I bought a Crimson Trace lazer for my 1911 and the second trip to the range it was off so far the gun didn't even hit the target at 15 yards. Open sights were still accurate the lazer was out to lunch. Need to work that out at a later date but the mount setup wasn't all that good IMHO. I have a scope on my Ruger SBH .44 Mag and it is good, it is a red dot scope.
 
I'd go for a Leupold as well. Either the 2x or the 4x. The majority of scopes I've seen mounted on FAs (or SRHs) have been leupolds because they are solid compact scopes.
 
Burris handgun 2X is clear and great for my Toklat 454 Casull...
But i have a Leupold to that do great, i just prefer the Burris for it's compact package... JP.

Don't mean to derail, but wouldn't a red dot be more useful, especially at the effective ranges most handguns would be used at? Or are these really being used at 100 yards + ?
 
Funny I'm still waiting for Prophet River to get back to me about the scope project. Not a word. I have a Red dot scope on the SBH but it is a real scope not one of those frankensten new things. The mounting bracket I have ordered has two scope rings so I have to buy something that uses two scope rings, I can go higher or lower but 2 rings.

I think I'll order the Prophet River piece, wait a day or two for the other guy to get back with a price though. The USA rate is a killer EH!

I called and talked to someone. Doesn't look like I wrote down his name. I asked for scope mounts for the M83 Freedom Arms. At this point I like this Burris 2x20 hand gun scope so I need that price & delivery. I have ordered the Leupold base already. I am an existing customer, bought the F/A from you. OK, will do. We've had the leupold bases in before for the FA> Someone will call this morning on the scope :)

I use a red dot on my AR for 200 yard gong shots all the time...all the scope would do is let me see what I'm actually shooting at. Scopes are cool, but a properly zeroed red dot is just as good at getting the job done. A scope will allow the shooter to place precision shots, a red dot (or sights) basically will ensure a 'hit'.YMMV (and I'm sure all the fan boys will arrive shortly describing how they shoot .5" MOA with iron sights at 4 kilometers but whatever right!? :p
Scope on a revolver is a killer look and a cool tool, but red dots and other optics are also an option and just as cool imho.
 
As to your question whether the Bushnell 3200 will take the recoil, the answer is yes. I had one on my BFR 45-70, and on a lone eagle 444 marlin. Both of which recoil significantly more than the 454. No problem with either. I currently have one on a lone eagle in 30-06. They are great for the calibers suited for longer range shooting. I regularly use my 30-06 out to 100yd and beyond.
But I agree with the comments on both the Burris and Leupolds being more compact, and probably better suited for wheel guns in pistol calibers. I've used both, and haven't had issues with either.
 
First, I have to say how I never fail to be impressed with the customer service from Prophet River (Kudos, Clay and staff) and how classy they are. Never anything but a great experience with them, on every occasion, and their response to this thread (that they even noticed it!) is ample proof of their commitment to the customer.

Second, I really have to say how much I prefer the Leupold 2x with the long eye relief to a Bushnell 3200, or the Burris I had. Operative word 'had'. The Leupold in my opinion, for what it's worth, is a much better optic in every aspect, the quality is first rate. I currently have mine on my Anaconda. Too bad in a way, as I can't bring myself to shoot that beautiful beast when I have a few S&W .44s I can shoot with out killing the collector value. But the Leupold is THE glass to put on it.

For me the Burris is a better choice for one important reason, the eye relief is up to 24 in, on the Leupold it's set at 18 in...

Both are equally clear and are very reliable but for a bigger/taller man the Burris is the way to go, i love to strech my arms to the max... JP.

Sweet setup, TC. Surely a cylinder or 2 (or even several for that matter) would not have any effect on the gun if you are careful and avoid safe kisses.

Get thee behind me Satan....lol. Yeah, I think a trip to the range and a couple cylinders may happen yet this summer. I have it nicely bore sighted already, so.....
 
On my .500 I am running a Weigand Combat base,4 weaver steel grand slam rings and a Leupold 2x scope. No problem with loads from 350-700 grains. Staying as tight as ever.
