My black rifle life started with a 9mm NR CX4 with a red dot. It was awesome.
Then got into a NR XCR in 556, with a Leupold mark AR 1.5-4 scope. Its awesome, and love being able to quickly turn the dial and smack gongs at 300 meters with ease.
But since getting a S&W M&P sport 2 with irons, the XCR is less fun. Grabbing the AR with irons and blasting away free hand just seems so much funner. Although typically only 100 meters.
Is it that the AR is just lighter, shorter, more nimble than the XCR? (yes no optics on the AR makes it lighter too, but the base platform is lighter and thinner)
Or is it than the scope(limited field of view, limiting follow up shots) just takes away from the free hand fun blast away?
I think its both. For that reason I'm leaning with more of a 0 magnification red dot style sight for the field of view follow up shots. But I also want to reach out to 300...
Thoughts on the red dots sight with flip up magnifier? Yeah I realise it will add extra weight with both devices.
I love the EOtech looking reticle, a dot for precision and a outer round circle for quick shot. Likewise the size difference between the 2 to use as a form of BDC.
