I bought a bushnell .22 rimfile scope from Reliable Guns (see http://www.reliablegun.com/Reliable.html) a few days ago. After a few hundred rounds on the shooting range, the reticle crosshair was broken (disconnected) in the middle, and the reticle itself rotated 45 degrees.

I went back to the shop, asking for a replacement. They refused and asked me to deal with Bushnell service directly. To do so, I need to package and mail the broken scope with a $10 check.

I paid $79.99 for this. I checked Bushnell website, the list price there is only $53.99. So I overpaid and I can't get a service I deserve from a retail shop! I should have checked a few other gunshops before I rush to buy stuff.

I'm new to this shooting sport. Do all the gun retail shops ask their customers to deal with manufacturers directly? Even within just a few days of purchase?

The shop should of replaced the scope but was not obligated to. Unfortunately your only option is to pay for shipping plus the $10 or just but another scope. Bushnell will honor the warranty and probably just send you a new scope.

In the future be sure to shop around for better prices and deal with an outfit that provides solid service.

That's some crappy luck, but the same thing can happen to a $1000 Zeiss. Makes you want to buy the next one somewhere else, that's for sure.

check with hub sports in abby. they used to send bushnels in for the customer. its a few months so if you want to shoot buy another scope.

The shop can not do the replacement for you as a rule. If you send it back to Bushnell they will simply send you a new one.

It's listed on Amazon as well, US$38.039(CAD$42.21) with free shipping. See (http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Rimfire-3-9x32-Riflescope-Black/dp/B0000A0AHF). The factory list price is US$53.99(CAD$59.92). See (http://www.shopbushnell.com/product_detail.asp?T1=BSN+762239). I have definitely overpaid. I will treat the difference as tuition fee. I usually do a lot on-line research before I buy anything. My main shopping objective that day was the ruger 10/22 carbine.

I hope my ruger 10/22 carbine is problem free. I have no desire to go back to that shop again. For now, I will start to practice iron sight aiming for a while.

Unfortunately, you'll just have to consider it a lesson learned.

It's a shame that a store can lose a customer so easily, but that's the reality of the business world --- there are too many options available to take customers for granted. I know a number of shops that are happy to swap a defective product for a new one and handle the warranty claim themselves... they're the ones that build a loyal customer base.

In the past, Reliable has had a good reputation for products and service, but I had a very dissatisfying experience with them on a Marlin warranty claim. I hope that your and my experiences are not the norm for the business.

Just remember, "money talks" with your next purchase.
