Scoping an SKS - Recommendations needed

Get a receiver cover that is a nice tight fit to your receiver and get it drilled and tapped.

Nope. Receiver cover is already out as I am only looking for side mount type.

Lots of great looking SKSs on here though, definitely gives me some good ideas. That 6x looks absolutely humongous on the SKS and from what I've seen the PU is the route i'll be going.
I'll post pics up of my project with results once it's done. To give a little teaser, i've got a 4lb fairly crisp trigger pull with 1/16th inch of takeup, trigger over travel and a bedded stock to go with it. Not going to be a sub moa rifle... not even moa for that matter, but it'll be my fun commie plinker.

You know of a better 30 cal semi for under $200?

But you used handload. We want to see 50 years old surplus ammo with half moa accuracy.

Good one him for making his own - no scope for me so far. I am shooting ok without having zeroed it as per the sticky. Intend to do so in the next bit and will post with results from chinese v.s czech surplus.

Don't bother scoping a carbine battle rifle.

svt-40 is a sniper rifle. I don't recall the commi countries scoping a SKS?

Yup, in the former Yugoslavia it's been done. I recall mainly on the Bosnian Muslim side there was lots of different configurations developed either homemade jobs to smiths.
The ones I saw had the most where the 91/30 side mounts.

This isn't some historic reproduction project. Nor is this some collectible significant rifle.. Its an sks and im looking to have a bit of fun with it.
Also, the C7 is a battle rifle and comes standard issue with a C79 3.4x optic so im not quite sure what your point is here...

C7 is an assault rifle, not a battle rifle. ( Intermediate cartridge rather than a rifle cartridge.) Gotta love labels... ;)

There you go an SKS isn't even a battle rifle. It is a close combat rifle for jungle use and urban battles, not any good for long range sniping. So my point is don't bother scoping a sks scope a mosin, svt-40, mauser, lee enfield, ross, etc...

id certainly disagree with you.... properly scoping an SKS rifle will totally bring it to a whole new level when it comes to hunting.

Sks is more a mid-range rifle that shares an intermediate cartridge with assault rifles, so scoping isn't really an issue though you wouldn't need to go crazy with it.
