Yes...but once youve flushed that steak turd its gone those antlers are there forever for the memories. Ive killed truck loads of meat deer and cant hardly remember a single detail about them unless I happen to drive by some spot that jerks a memory out...but these trophys I have on my wall-they are constant reminders and I can remember every detail of the hunt and who was there with me
You're target buck will score about 128 to 130 gross. I as well was drawn for mule deer in Alberta. I found this buck in my hunting zone and he will gross score 180 to 182.................but I'm still scouting for a bigger buck.

I hear ya !! I took years of abuse from my buddies for not having ever shot a ātrophyā buckā¦Wellā¦i finally seriously scouted out 2 bucks and put a 200+ pointer on the wall. Have not heard a comment from the peanut gallery since. 50 years of deer hunting and only a small pickup truck full of deer and I remember most of them still (oldtimers hasnāt quite kicked in yet)ā¦
The 3 deer I will never forget were wounded and not recovered and those memories still haunt me to this very day. All i can say to the new hunters is shoot straight, use enough gun and if youāre archery hunting put 200% effort into that game.

Not gonna be any "ground shrinkage" problem with that puppy. The last Mule I shot , I pre-shot guessed him at 180 but taped him at 195. Ever since I used to read Jack O'Connor in Outdooor Life in the 1960's about 40 x 40 mules, I have wanted one , this one was as close as I will ever get nowdays at 30 x 36.
Depends what your after i guess. I want the tasty meat as much as the trophy. So, if its getting close to seasons end I won't pass a big doe either.
I'm going to have to look up how scoring is done. This is my first buck draw, so I am excited to harvest him. I am doing it for the meat, not the trophy, but, if a trophy presents itself while I am trying to fill the freezer, who am I to turn it down?

Iām going to revise my estimate on OPās buck, I thought it was missing a G1.
Ears are 7 inches, that gives 4 scoreable points at an optimistic 8āfor 32 plus the combined brows for maybe 6ā . Inside is about the same as ear spread so 16. 20 apiece for mainbeams, 28 for circs. G4 has no mate so nothing there. Thatās 122? 5 inches or so min always seems to disappear to symetry so Iāll give you 116. Not used to judging or measuring deer that small.
