Scorpion Optics....Any Good?

Actually, in a way I like Scorpion optics. Many other cheap scopes look okay when you glance through them in the store, and you don't realize how abysmal the image quality is until you get them outside at the range...but Scorpions, along with the Bass Pro Epic line and the BSA's , are so crappy that you know it IMMEDIATELY, the very first second you raise one to your eye. You have to admire that kind of straightforward consistency.

It's pretty sad they are crappy. They are a Canadian company and these scopes are located in EVERY gun store I've been to now!

Likely because the margins are high and the retail is so low. Walmart isn't as big as it is because people prefer quality goods, they're successful because people consistently choose cheap over quality even when they know they're buying crap.

Took out my .300 wsm topped with a scorpion 4-12x44 for zeroing today. I found the click adjustments to be extremely soft and inconsistent, from easy turns to jammed tight enough to make think I had maxed out the elevation. It also had a weird green "halo" effect at max magnification. I paid $350 for it and in my opinion that was at least $300 to much. I guess I'll chalk it up to a costly lesson learned. Moral of the story junk and I won't have another.

Thks for your HONEST answer ! Unfortunately for you its a WASTED $350.00 - Oh Well ! RJ

If somebody gave me one their scopes id ##### slap em with it then make them clean up the broken peices on the ground.
Id rather duct tape half my binoculars with a pen drawn reticle to my rifle then buy another one.

Mueller is Made in China as well.

The Chinese can make a scope as good as anyone. But if you want them to make Swarovski quality, it's going to cost like Swarovski and no one is going to pay that price for a Chinese scope because we all know the brands go there to have things made cheaply. Somewhere in there it is possible to get a scope made properly and if it is happening, it's probably a brand like Mueller, i.e. it's been around a while and we've heard of it and they haven't gotten a bad reputation, that will do it. But it still has to retail fairly cheap because of the Chinese stigma.

Wow! Would I be guessing wrong if I thought most of you thought Scorpion scopes are not top quailty? :p

Absolute JUNK save up and by a decent piece of glass. I've heard the recticle is made of plastic and if you live in icy cold Canada that recticle will snap from recoil in the cold weather. The cold weather is when the hunting season is on by the way. I have picked up a few Leupolds over the years at gun shows and if you don't like the recticle just sent it off for replacement. They have a outlet in Alberta that does excellent work. Just check Leupolds web sight.

If you're dead set on pissing your money into the wind, give King Optics a call. With fluted scope tubes, #### reticles with holdover balls and the accuracy to shoot 3/4" groups at ten yards after smashing it on a tree... you can't go wrong. Once you take it out of the box and realize it needs warranty work, take the scope in your hand, gripping it firmly. Extend your arm behind you then throw it as hard and far as you can. Then go buy a quality scope from a reputable brand. If you're on a budget then just skip to that last part. Buy a quality scope from a reputable brand.

Well, I guess I got lucky with mine. :)

I recently got a 4x12x40 AO Scorpion Copperhead, and while its not as nice as a Leupold, its much cheaper. The finish isn't quite up to even the standard of the nicer Redfield scopes, but its close. The glass is as clear as the similar cost Vortex ones, and very very close to the Redfield ones too. And the reticle is much finer than both of those by a good margin. I played around with 6 or 7 scopes at my local store here recently and they let me take them all outside for a while too, so I was looking at different real life objects at different ranges.

the turrets click just fine for me. not sloppy, but not overly stiff. I would prefer a little but more smoothness in it, but its not in any way bad for the price point.

It has all the things I wanted too. Some scopes I looked at didn't have adjustable objective, or the little focus on the eyepiece. And all of the scopes in this price range or less, had thick reticles on them. thick enough to fully cover a .22lr hole at 50m.

not sure how it will stand up to magnum rifle calibers, but I am not using it for that. No, I wouldn't take it to war, but again, not using it for that.

everyone #####es about Chinese stuff, but they buy tons of Norinco rifles, pistols and shotguns. And tons of people buy Vortex, Lucid and other made in China optics. I figured I'd give it a try and so far I am impressed.

Comparing the crude workings of a Norinco rifle to the intricate workings of an optical rifle scope isn't going to work.

Not many Vortex optics are made in China, most are made in the Philippines.

The poor quality of Lucid has been exposed in the states where they've been on sale longer than here. I would expect similar here in the future.

Good luck with your Scorpion, but I would recommend bringing a back-up if you go on a hunt with it.

glad i went with the BSA. Almost ordered a redhot 17 from a "dealer" on here. Ad showed it for 200$ shipped, i PMd him, and he said, please PM with addy for shipping quote.....he had gone back to the ad, and changed it to + shipping.....

needless to say, i passed on it, just on principal alone. One more dealer to avoid doing any business with. he also Pm;d back and said sorry we dont have any of those anymore, but you can/need to prepay for one, and i can order another in , should be about 6 weeks....yeah no thanks....

I also have several of these scopes. Definitely not junk. Good quality at a reasonable price. If you buy a high end Scorpion they compare with any good scope and are better than most. The lower end ones a economy scopes but work well with a warranty bested by no one.
