Screwing in the chokes question

I just picked up another new shotgun this weekend, as I was reading the manual it says that you should lubricate the threads on the chokes before screwing them on. I have never lubricated the threads before in my life, so I decided to follow the instructions on the manual and so I did it. Anyways when I was at the range shooting at clays I noticed that the chokes were coming loose after 5-10 rounds all day long and I needed to keep making sure they were tightened.
My question is do you guys think that the chokes were coming loose cause I lubricated the threads?

I keep all my chokes in a bag of lube, dont want them to get threaded on and not come back out again, i've heard of this happening to quite a few people so its best not to take that chance. :)

I assume you are talking about external chokes?

Get a decent choke wrench and snug those chokes up - not super tight but more than finger tight. I can't tell you how many times I've seen those chokes work loose. If it works it way too far out before you notice, you can expect a bulged barrel for your efforts.

When you are done and while the gun is still hot, just loosen the chokes a bit and its unlikely they will seize on you. Especially if you are regularly cleaning/lubing the threads.

In a waterfowl hunting situation iwould suggest you use lube. If not check your tubes every time you clean. I've seen tubes so rusted in , they were hard to move , because the hunter had gone years without checking them. Tubes have to be snugged good with a wrench.Finger tight isn't tight enough!

No, they are not external chokes

These should not be working loose if you are snugging them down with a wrench. And yes I meant extended chokes.

Win/64 - Briley is supposed to make a nice wrench for those extended optima chokes. Vice grips don't sound too healthy, not to mention you'll need to swap chokes for sporting clays.

You're right. Briley make an excellent choke tube wrench and yes they should definately not be working loose, if tightened properly.
