See Through Scope rings... Good or Bad?

Do you think high "look under" scope rings are good?

You'll usually find something like a Tasco mounted atop see-thru rings. Which is good, because the extra height allows one to slip his fingers under the scope and use it as a carrying handle. ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I had a feeling that they wouldn't be quite practical, but having never used them, I felt the need to clear it up with the experts before committing any money or safety on a set. I will do the smart thing and either commit to scoping , or leave the sights open, but I guess you just cant have your cake and eat it too.

Part of the reason I ask is that I ran into a grizzly 2 years ago at near point blank range, and I had that Remington in my hands. I immediately pointed the gun and all I saw was brown fur.
A low powered scope (1.5x5 or a 1x4) set on the lowest setting would have avoided this.

Not to beat a dead horse...

Yeah, they are crap. There's a guy up at our Moose camp that uses it. Says just in case his scope craps out he can use the iron sight. In reality, he uses really cheap scopes and after a solid day of doggin in rain, his scopes usually have water in it. I tried shooting his rig with the see through rings and found I had to rest my chin on the stock. And then came the recoil that cracked a tooth because I had to have my jaw open a bit to get the sight picture. They are for cheap old dudes that fell in love with a bad piece of kit years ago.

Experts?
Haaaahahaha

Actually, there are a few here, the trick is to know the difference.
Most of the replies you got were powered by prejudice, bias, bigotry, ignorance and last but not least by innocence.

I got a set on my Rem7400 (.270). I don't use them, it raises the scope too high for my head/eye. I have a heck of a time trying to acquire a sight picture. I do use the scope though (as a carry handle) as the high rings makes nice clearance for the gloved hand :dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Seriously. I hate them, but I'm too lazy to remove it and it really doesn't hurt nothing to leave them on.

funny-if the main reason against a see through scope mount is a high sighting plane is bad-then why do the ''black rifles ''use a high mount?I suggest use whatever works for you in your hunting conditions .
