This all started with a really bad day at work. I came home grumpy on the 22nd of January. Crappy day at work and decide to see what was happening on CGN. I don't know what prompted me to wander over to Evil Anthony's website (TradeEx) but that's where I ended up. And what to my wandering eyes did appear? A simple sentence about Merkel Double Rifles...an the kicker "Lowest Prices in Canada".
Well, that's a bold statement and I just had to see for myself. Sure enough, there were two Merkels...a 500 and a 470. $8500, proclaimed the advert. At this point I was as close to buying a double as I was to flying the space ship.
No word of a lie, I told my Wife about it. She looked at me, dead serious ad said "You should get one...that's an awesome deal."
"Quoi?"
"I researched them a few years ago or your birthday. That's a great deal. You should buy one of those."
Well I said what any gun nut would say...
"No, I'm not buying that rifle."
She pestered me all weekend about the damned thing. All weekend I rmained steadfast that I wasn't buying a double. How does a guy with a 4 month old baby and a trip to Zim planned drop another bucket of money on such a specialized rifle? She was on me relentlessly..."You'll never get another chance like this again. Soon we'll have to put money away for Emily's University. If you don't buy it now, you'll never get it."
First thing Tuesday morning I was still on the fence when I got a visit for coffee break at work.
"Either you buy that rifle or I'm buying it for you."
Damn...I did just get her PAL in the mail too.
So onto the phone I went. 15 minutes and a few details later (Anthony has a file with all my information in it for occasions like this) the deal was done.
And today it arrived... Merkel 140AE 470 NE.
And for the doubters out there... the "penny" pic
