Seeking to immigrate!

Hey Duffer,

Welcome to CGN!

I hear ya' about being unhappy with the direction your country is going in and/or your elected government. I have to say, however, that if you're unhappy with just how much your current government is getting involved in your business, then you definitely don't want to emigrate to Canada.

We're actually one of the few social-welfare countries on the planet where a true "nanny-state" is emerging (although Britain is still well ahead of us!). You'll be giving up a number of very important constitutional rights by leaving the US, including the right to own property and the right to keep and bare arms, and the de facto right to self-protection.

In Canada, the replacement of the British North American Act with the "repatriated" Canada Constitution Act (1982) and the adoption of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, many traditional rights, such as the right to property were eliminated deliberately by the Liberal Government of the day. With a stroke of the pen, basic human rights we've enjoyed since the days of the Magna Carta were eliminated.

Since then, many restrictive laws and regulations have been passed that has made it impossible for individuals to obtain a firearm specifically for the reason of self-defense. You must lie on your application and state that the reason for obtaining said firearm is for either target shooting or collecting. If you own more than ten firearms, you are required by law to permit inspectors access to your home whenever they so desire and cannot refuse them admission. They can have access to all your personal records and computers, etc...Refuse them and you will be charged and they will simply take what they need anyway.

The Liberal Party of Canada believes it has some manifest destiny to rule Canada and for much of the last 100 years they have gotten things their own way. They are bent upon socially re-engineering Canada to fit comfortably into the leftist socialist mould the Politically Correct advocates so dearly love.

You might be pissed off with George Bush, but my friend, you don't know how good you've got it in the US. To those of us forced to fight tooth and nail to protect the few remaining rights we still enjoy as remnants of English Common Law, America remains a shinig jewel of hope and the last bastion of freedom. You don't know what fascisim is, until you have to listen to a government you elected tell you that you must turn in your firearms without compensation because of the way they look or because they appeared in a violent Hollywood action film and they explain their dictatorial law-making as being for the "common good" and if it saves "just one life" trampling the rights of citizens was worth it. Just ask the guys who used to own SPAS-12 shotguns, etc...

In a year George Bush will be gone and hopefully the American people will see fit not to elect somebody like Hilary Clinto of Barack Obama to replace him, however, even then, you'd still enjoy greater freedoms than your Canadian cousins do!

If you're still hell-bent on coming to Canada, any handgun you own can be legally imported into Canada unless it has a barrel less than 4.14" (105mm) or is in .25 or .32 caliber. Why? No reason, simply because our former Liberal Government arbitrarily ruled that any handgun with a barrel under 4.14" or in .25/.32 caliber had no sporting purposes and was reclassified as "prohibited." They cannot be legally imported into Canada.

Any semi-auto handgun magazines you have must be permanently altered so that they cannot accept anymore than 10 rounds. That usually means drilling a hole in the magazine body and putting in a rivet.

All centerfire semi-automatic rifles and shotguns (.22rimfire excepted) are also limited to just 5 rounds total in their magazines. Again, all magazines must be permanently altered to accept no more than 5 rounds.

There are a number of rifles that are classified as restricted, while others have been classified as prohibited. Restricteds may still be imported into Canada, while the prohibited rifles such as FN-Fals, HK-94, MP-5, etc...cannot.

You will need to take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and obtain your Non-Restricted Possession and Acquistion License. In order to own handguns and restricted rifles, you will also need to take the Restricted Firearms & Safety Course and obtain your Restricted Possession and Acquistion License endorsement.

If you don't already know, you won't be able to carry your handguns for protection and the only place you will legally be able to use them is at an approved gun club/range. You must make an application to the provincial Chief Firearms Office in the province in which you reside for an ATT or "Authorization to Transport" restricted firearms that will permit you to take your handguns to and from your gun club, and only then, by the most direct route available.

All restricted handguns must be trigger locked and locked into an opaque container or stored unloaded in an approved gun safe at all times when not in use. If you want to display them, they must be trigger locked/gun locked and securely attached to a non-moveable structure, etc... like a wall stud or floor joist via chain or stout cable, etc... Forget those lovely glass fronted walnut gun display cabinets.

Sound appealing??? Check out the Canadian Firearms Center website at: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/default_e.asp

Socialist worker with guns is still a socialist worker.
We have enough NDPers with firearms.

Neither does anyone else have to give "equal access", as adjudicated by an inevitably-biased government agency. That's why Al Franken and the like can do whatever they want to as well. That's why NPR can say what it wants, and why Michael Moore can do a 'documentary' without airing an opposing opinion.

It's called freedom. If you don't want it, stay in Germany - or at least out of Canada.

Sorry Duffer, I don't know what I was thinking!? Hang on a little while longer, 'til we get rid of all the remaining leftist, pink-hole, commie bastard, tree huggin', pot smokin', crunchy granola, filthy little pricks, then we'll send for ya to come to Newfoundland:D

Why you don't stay in Germany? I lived many years in Germany and now five years in Canada and they are both nice countries with their individual ups and downs. Do not expect milk and honey running down the river.

All are welcome to this great country.....unless you intend to vote Liberal. If so...disregard the preceding comment and go jump off a cliff.
BTW welcome to the board.

Sehr geehrter Herr Duffer,

Willkommen ins Board. I don't understand this, you want to become a Canadian? I tried for about 2 years to find a Job in the Vaterland, but due to the high unemployment in Germany I couldn't get a job. So now I'm going into the Royal Canadian Air Force. I still have friends in Germany who I visit as often as possible. Sure Canada is a wonderful country but I find it a bit boring in contrast to Europe. Anyway Gluck auf.

Do you like hockey, pay tax and hate liberals? If not, reconsider your immigration plan.

Welcome to CGN nonetheless.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth

The biggest issues with the US involve media control. While decrying the "liberal press" is popular, over 93% of all articles and programs are decidedly conservative. You see, in the Reagan era we abandoned the Equal Accessclause to our Federal Communications Commission. It was successfully argued that the US had a plethora of news sources and diversity. This allowed Rush Limbaugh to assail people at will, knowing he didn't have to give equal access to a differing opinion.

And then George Bush happened. He removed limits on media consolidation and we no longer have the diversity of opinion and our options for differing viewpoints pretty much went away. The people get their pre-digested conservative news and that's about all.

Unaccountable, the conservatives changed many laws and regulations while instituting rule changes. By virtue of these rule changes, if the democrats come to power, they can do very little to reverse what the republicans have built. The pendulum will swing back, but it will happen decades after I have been buried. (THANK GOD !!)

Now regarding the Dan Wesson revolvers, they have interchangible barrels. Options for the .445 Supermag go as short as 4-inches, but options for the 44 magnum went as short as 2-inches. Would the capability of mounting a 2-inch barrel render the revolvers unfit for Canada?

All my firearms remain in the U.S. as I am a U.S. citizen and found I needed to go through lengthy training and licensure for their use in Germany. My job in Germany will soon end, and I can return to handloading in Michigan.

Incidentally, I wrote to many of the powder and bullet manufacturers inquiring of reduced loads for the .338 Lapua. I got a whole bunch of good data straight from the pros.

Bury the democrats and keep them buried..........I don't have a problem with that.........wish we could do the same with the Canadian Liberals before they bury us with their bans and pandering to minority groups & welfare freeloaders.

In the United States and loving it more every day.......a place where people can stand on their own two feet.......unfortunately have to return to Canada in a couple of weeks & the reality of being force fed Liberal values & wet nursed by a suffocatingly proprietary Liberal NANNY STATE.........can't turn around and fart into the wind without a Cukier or other Liberal zealot telling you which nostril to smell it with.........big government wrapped around you 24 hours a day like a Hudson's Bay blanket in July.

:D

Owning a firearm doesn't make you good people.

Lots of liberal pinkos own firearms. Carl T. Rowan owned firearms. Steven Spielberg owns firearms. Stalin owned firearms too.

Stay in Germany.

X-MAN/ and the COPS

ARE THE POLICE STILL REQUIRED TO KEEP THEIR FIREARMS LOCKED IN THE TRUNK OF THEIR POLICE CRUISERS??????????:jerkit::50cal::runaway: POPS

Good beer comparing to States is the good reason to move to Canada.

Lots of Germans live in Vernon, BC and Okanagan Valley in general thus Okanagan Spring Brewery is founded by Germans and brews excellent beer. British Columbia is the place to move to - skiing, sailing, fishing, hunting - anything you want except for really good soccer. White Cups are marginally decent a.t.m., but improving fast.

Welcom to CGN

Since you brought it up, a couple of years ago the RCMP had one of their cruisers stolen, locked in the truck in a gun case was 1 or 2 brand new Smith & Wesson 9mm with the RCMP rollmarks! The guns have never been recovered! Only the police and military should have guns, eh?:p

If you guys think George W is one of the good guys, give your head a shake, it might not be attached. I don't understand how a government can lie, steal, set up Haliburton to skim cream in Iraq, ride roughshod over so many basic rights without being impeached. I do not look forward to what the Democrats might do with firearms, but it is obviously time for a change in U.S. No, I do not love the Liberals, but if you think that Harper et all won't screw you if they think it will gain them 5 points in the polls, think again. The definition of a politician is someone who will trade all his principles for expediency. Ok, there are a few exceptions. You rant on about a welfare state, but we are a long way from that. I notice that the gap between rich and poor is expanding just about as quickly here as our neighbor to the south. I have voted for all three major political parties, and they have all disappointed me. I voted for Reform too, and Harper is distancing himself from some of the better platforms of that party (the MP represents the constituency before the party), as fast as he can.

I'm afraid that if you're going to be nasty to Rush then we can never be friends....:(

It must be some other United States that you are talking about that has a conservative media bias. The great country that I know so well, north of Mexico can't be it.

Good luck finding employment as a socialist worker.

X2!!!!! It's to my understanding that most of Europe is anti-conservative...:(
