Semi-auto 22LR options other than Ruger/GSG/Savage?

From what you've written, you want low price, magazine capacity and a more traditional look. The last round bolt hold open feature is not common on 22LR rifles at all so you're going to have to give up on that idea, sorry. You don't have many options:

As others have said, the Remington 597 and Savage A22 both clearly fit the bill (personally I find both underwhelming).

You can get 20-rd magazines for the Savage 64, and frankly it is an excellent design at the price point. This would be my choice, the "64G" wood stock version.

And there's the wood stocked version of the CZ 512, but it's quite a bit more money.

Take a look at either the Mossberg 702 or the Rossi RS22. They are both the same rifle.

There are 25 round magazines available and have last round bolt hold open.

Ha, you're giving me buyer's remorse already. It's actually not that bad once you get all the right allen keys into your cleaning box and figure out the steps, but the first few times I disassembled the thing were big WTF moments.

I expect a big job when I take apart the 22s that my grandpa owned. When I disassemble a brand new one I figure on something more user-friendly though.

I second the Chiappa M1-22 as a good choice. They run well on most any ammo, is traditional looking with the wood stock, has a dovetail to add optics if you wish, and has the last shot bolt hold open. Accuracy is more than acceptable for plinking purposes.

The Chiappa M1-22 looks pretty cool. Limited to 10 rounds though, I don’t know if they make bigger mags.

Sample size of 1, but mine was very ammo and magazine sensitive. Many, many FTE, FTF, etc. Ended up with 10 magazines or so, only a few worked flawlessly. While I like the looks of the M1 Carbine (in 22LR) I ended up selling my Chiappa and bought a Ruger 10/22.

So some mags worked fine and others were an issue? I saw a video review that claimed there was an issue with the magazine mold that left some needing some grinding to remove material to work. Does that sound about right? I have a new Chiappa M1-22 in the mail on the way to me lol

I own 2 marlin 795 and a Winchester Wildcat. I would recommend either to someone who wants last round hold open. No high cap mags for the Wildcat, but honestly there isn't much difference between loading and shooting two 10 round magazines and loading/shooting 1 20 round mag.

Mags on the Wildcat fit flush and cleaning the gun is stupid simple. Safety is reversible for lefties too, that is why I got one.

Yea, the Wildcat is one of my favourites too. The OP is looking for 20-round mags, but those Wildcat rotary mags are so nice to load it isn't that big of a deal.

The plates were both shot with CCI-HV 36g RNL using the Green 64 we-red dot. The One at the top of the other target was with the 4x El Paso Weaver using SK+ 40gSV. I only used that since I was shooting the CZ then also. I've got some 'Old stock' Fed Champion 40gSV RNL that shoots almost as well in the 64s and my Marlin 60. I wanted to keep these for 'short-range' plinking/hunting. My CZ455 SS Lux and B22 Sav have 6-24x50 FFP-SF MOA scopes more for 'targets'.

I've learned of a few new 22's here that I haven't come across before. Probably the most up my alley seems to be the Winchester Wildcat. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one this week. ~$299 seems to be the cheapest I can find it for online right now. Anyone know if they've seen substantially better sale deals on this in the past?

Didn't realize there are adapters to run larger mags in 10/22s, so that's awesome. I feel like I'll get a Ruger eventually - never seen a product just so broadly recommended before.

On another note it sounds like I'm going to need to get myself registered on the equipment exchange for the future!

I would not recommend the wildcats. Seen too many have magazine issues, basically falling apart, and no way to fix them.

I have run the adapters in the 10/22's, and will never go that route again. I have several of the HC3 mags and much prefer that in the altered receivers.

You can also upgrade the trigger and bolt to have a last shot hold open. I have run a few of those, and they work VERY good. Im running the X ring receiver now, so that is not an option for it as it is a dual spring slide set up, or I would be running the last shot hold open in it, it is just an awesome upgrade feature.

Unfortunately to get the best features you will be modifying the standard set up 10/22, but they are the easiest to work on. But with the mods comes the price tag.

I don't even purchase complete rifles anymore, and just start with the parts I want and assemble them myself, but that is part of the fun. Shooting the rifle that "you made" yourself.
My latest build is just braking 3 lbs before optics and ammo, with a blue theme.

Yea, the magazines do feel a bit flimsy, but both mine have held up fine so far with at least 1,000 rounds through each. And if they do fall apart, they cost $20 each (or you can go with a 10/22 mag if you can live without the last round holdback).

I eventually plan to build a lightweight 10/22 with a TUF22 receiver. Until then, the Wildcat will provide plenty of fun.

Another vote for the Derya TM-22 although if 'assault style" is not your thing you won't like it. It does have a great trigger for an off the shelf plinker.

Discontinued for several years now, but the Thompson Center R55 Benchmark is a very accurate semi auto. I love mine.
